I'm not opposed to some gradation.

5% on first 50k.
6% on next 50k.
7% on everything above that.

Nope. Somebody whether it be the poor or the rich would get an exemption somewhere somehow. People making 30,000 a year aren't going to want to pay 15% taxes and politicians will see to it that they don't.

Nope. I would also prefer taxpayers pay taxes directly to the government instead of through the employer.

A flat tax is what we should have. Everyone pays the same percentage with no exemptions.

Are we talking about all taxes or still pretending the money from FICA is not a tax?

Eh. The flat tax is a little complicated in execution. It would be preferable to our current system by leaps and bounds.

Why not a really fair tax? Take the required operating income divide by total population (every man woman and child) and everyone pays their “fair share”?

Yes. It would be a massive tax increase on the middle class.

Absolutely a great idea. What's good enough for God is more than good enough for government.

Not at all, as long as:

1) this is for all federal taxes (including payroll takes) and is no more than 20%

2) $7,500.00 per person in household is untaxed. Thus, for family of 4, first household $30k is not subject to tax.

3) If #2 results in zero tax liability, you are required to pay $250.00 per person for taxes.

4) Health insurance premiums, home mortgage interest and up to $10k of combined state/local taxes are 100% deductible and added to the $30k in determining taxable income subject to the flat tax.

And even for God, it is a suggestion, not a commandment.
