Want taxes on sales. That way everyone pays. I want exemptions for the aged and handicapped.

Repeat after me, kids:

National.
Retail.
Sales.
Tax.

EVERYONE pays into the treasury, including tourists, illegals and cash-economy/black market lurkers.

All taxpayers are given a monthly reimbursement at beginning of month for necessary expenses based on family size.

You take home your ENTIRE paycheck.

22-24% embedded corporate income taxes already baked into the retail price of everything you buy is replaced with 23% NRST at register.

Prices stay the same. You have more money.

April 15 is just another day.

While I agree with this...growing up as one of 6 kids. I also believe that you have to be very careful when offering additional benefits for having more kids.

Prefer a national sales tax as previous poster(s) said. Everybody contributes: illegals, drug traffickers, poor and rich alike....

The embedded tax is something I think a lot of people don't take into account. That's a good point

Why not a really fair tax? Take the required operating income divide by total population (every man woman and child) and everyone pays their “fair share”?

Seriously?

I personally would like to abolish all income tax. I support a federal sales tax.

Why should someone have to pay taxes for contributing to society (adding goods or services to society).

We should be paying taxes when we take away from society.

Then how are Presidents supposed to weaponize the IRS to go after their political opponents?

How is Congress supposed to write tax laws to benefit lobbyists who've bought them...err...contributed to them?

Ya, didn't think of that Mr. Smarty Pants now did you?

I like this suggestion.

I read the book.
No deductions, no exemptions. It calls for the elimination of the IRS since you could fill out your taxes on a note card.
Estimated rate would be 16% to be revenue neutral.

But when you put it into practice the following happens in Congress:
"Mr. Speaker, I would amend this bill with the one exception of deducting home mortgage rates so that honest hard working people can afford a home."

That is followed by 1,000 other deductions 'for the children of the working poor to have food.'
The dike has a hole and the entire bill goes down in the flood.

Neal Boortz and Rep. John Linder who wrote The FairTax Book call it "the greatest transfer of power since the American Revolution" for good reason.

The bill is predicated on abolition of the 16A, and dismantling of the IRS, and while the figure for the sales tax % is currently estimated at 23% to be revenue neutral, it is up to us as voters to keep DC's feet to the fire, as Congress could vote to raise the rate, but we are obligated to keep them in check at the polls.

Taxes shouldn’t be withheld by employer. Everyone should see exactly how much the government takes

This is just about the flat tax, nothing about reforms in social welfare programs.

also, your family would have had to pay $2000 minimum under I proposed if total household income was under $60k

Yes. Taxes are to fund govt. every citizen should pay his portion, how does paying a percentage of income accomplish this? How is that “fair”?

When you divide a bill at a restaurant do you go off percentage of income? Maybe we could argue it should be based on service usage, but an even split of the bill (required income to operate govt) is the only truly fair way..

This is the key to any tax reduction of any size. Would take one year and people would realize that striking a check to the govt for 5000 and up (middle class) sucks and most wouldn’t be able to do it.

I'd prefer a national sales tax and for the government to not even know how much I make.

People would think twice about voting for tax and spend Democrats when that $100 item costs $140 after national+state+local sales taxes.

Flat tax is best tax

No credits. No deductions.

Further I would get rid of withholding so that everyone had to write a check for the amount owed every year.

Everyone is in the game and everyone sees how they are robbed blind.

We already have a multitude of taxes based on income and some based on consumption: income tax, sales tax, property tax, gasoline tax etc. Every frickin thing is taxed!

Except for income, they are based on sales tax principles.

I was against or uneducated against a national sales tax for the simple reason it raises prices and the tax is over 20% to be feasible. Add on the other taxes and your tax rate becomes very high.

I would not be opposed to a sales tax, however. But, like everything else the government touches, no way it does not continue to increase and no way the politicians do not pander to grant some sort of exemption to those less fortunate.

I could be happy with either a flat tax or a national sales tax but either way you'd have to repeal the 16th Amendment in conjunction with it.
