I've been in and out of PLUG this year.

Fuel cells are fascinating and have many types with different advantages and disadvantages. They have the potential to beat out batteries and progress has been made over the years since Bush made a fuel cell car push years ago.

The most recent research I saw from a lab was the development of a nano-tech base metal catalyst with performance like platinum. It's a long way from the lab to the factory in most cases, but it is chipping away.

An Auburn engineer reported that his company was using them for cell phone towers in remote locations. The problem was reliability and difficulty in repair or replacement.

Shares of Plug Power Inc. PLUG, +9.88% rallied 30% Thursday, a day after Plug Power announced a $1.5 billion investment from a South Korean company and the intention to form a joint venture with that company by next year. Plug Power on Wednesday said that it had partnered with SK Group "to accelerate hydrogen as an alternative energy source in Asian markets."

“There’s no better friend to the fuel cell industry over the last 20 years than Sen. [Chuck] Schumer and, boy, [he’ll be] in charge of what legislation gets to the floor,” Plug Power CEO Andrew Marsh, reacting to the results of Tuesday’s Georgia Senate runoffs, told CNBC.

Marsh sees more policies coming out of Washington that will benefit the renewable energy sector.

“There’s no better friend to the fuel cell industry over the last 20 years than Sen. Schumer and, boy, [he’ll be] in charge of what legislation gets to the floor,” he told Jim Cramer in a “Mad Money” interview. “I think it’s going to be a great time for the hydrogen fuel cell industry, and being a New York company, we couldn’t be luckier to have such a great senator.”

This has had a beaut run up in the last week. I started purchasing at around $20 and up through $24 and to see it at $52 now is a thing of beauty.

If/when WKHS does the same, I’ll be sitting pretty.

I still regret selling off some SASL at $8.50 but at least I put the money to good use.

Here's the actual Kerrisdale report. These guys successfully called the top on Mellanox a few years ago, which was contrarian at the time, but ended up being spot on.
