I still don't get why people are triggered by female films or female leads or minority based movies.
Because they're being told and reminded to be offended. It's part of why everyone is now offended by everything. News and media sites go with a minuscule, non-story about some perceived offense, knowing the sensational headline will get them clicks. That gets people tweeting and bitching, then the people who hate the tweeters start tweeting, and the next thing you know people are shouting, "That Director doesn't agree with me and his movie will SUCK!"

If those movies are made today people would bitch about Hollywood being woke.
You clearly have no idea what the debate is over or you are simply ignoring it. Most of those movies tell a story where the main protagonist just happens to be a woman.
They were feminist to be sure, as they empowered their female protagonists and gave them a great deal of agency. The difference between the aforementioned films and the women-led films of today is that the latter are generally more third wave in their feminism. What does that mean? It means men are pigs, the patriarchy is real and it needs to be put down, and we are going to shove your face in it and make you like it.

Not to mention, they write protagonists like Rey who are uber talented and have no flaws and suffer no struggle because they believe that women have to be shown as superior in every way. Without struggle or flaws, protagonists are impossible to identify with, root for, or care about because they’re never in any real danger.
Female led movies of the past didn’t do this. They wrote human characters with flaws, traits, backstory, emotions, and struggles that were real and relatively believable. They then developed those characters with a plot. Recent “woke” movies don’t do this.
Also, Volad is an idiot, and Dark Phoenix isn’t a woke movie.
Black Panther has a woke antagonist and was marketed as a woke watershed moment in black history, but it’s just a very good, but not great, cgi-heavy superhero movie.

I was told by many people, some even here, that Knives Out was a big ole thumb in the eye to Trump and his supporters. That it skewered them. Made fools out of them.
After seeing it, I was like... "Ok.. I'm ready to be made fun of. When's it going to start."
They couldn't have been more off base.

your post might have been sarcasm, but Black Panther and the hype around it triggered the frick out of many here
That's because this board is full of comfortable white guys who don't want women or minorities coming to take their ****. That's all it is about. Having said all of that, it does get annoying when SJW's force feed stupid crap like Black Little Mermaid.

Adding Electra and Catwoman to a list of successful women’s films is a stretch. Both sucked!

So what happens in 2020 and beyond? Will Hollywood continue to crank out woke stories, ignoring the box office realities? Or, will studio executives see the error of their ways and put the focus back on entertainment?
Director Todd Phillips complained that woke culture killed the big screen comedy. A crush of media outlets raced to attack that point of view.
Meanwhile, Phillips’ woke-free “Joker” shattered box office records despite a full court press attack by some of those very same scribes.
It took anti-war flop after flop after flop for studios to stop making such movies during the Bush era. Hollywood will learn its lesson, eventually, but it may take a few more box office debacles before it sinks in.
