Well, i have to take blood pressure meds cause I'm high(150/95 or 150 over 100) it runs in family , so they started me on 10mg of lisinopril and a small diuretic pill(forgot name).....after a month my bp hasn't gone down. Most all mornings and during the day except at evening time(it goes down to about 132/84 but this is rare) when it's better. I am averaging still 140 to 160 over 90 to 105 in the mornings. I'm going back to doctor after work today and told his arse he is changing my meds either in dosage or name brand because what I take now ain't working(he kept telling me i have to give it time to work, well it's a month gone and nothing is different)...I'm 5'10 215lbs....yeah I'm fat I guess but I go to gym 3/4 days a week and do 30 mins of cardio and weights, don't smoke and rarely drink so I'm not a lazy bum.

What do you guys take and if your a doctor, is what I'm taking enough, is there better meds or ill need more obviously?

On a side note, I ain't tsking nothing that makes my dick soft...frick that lol

STarted off on Atenolol ( for BP and also migraine prophylaxis) .... but yes OP.. it gave me erection issues and talk about humiliation trying to frick college girls with a limp dick....... sooo frick that... told my GP I can't deal with that anymore to switch me to something else.

now I'm on lisinipril 10 twice a day and it works..

but yes it's a big puzzle to get your BP under control... trial and error... it takes time but they'll get you at goal eventually.

Don't get high?

On a serious note, it'll probably just take a different drug to get yours down... there are some many different ones, shouldn't be too much trouble to find one (or a combo of them) that works.

I'm on 10mg ziac and 40 mg telmisartan, both have a little diuretic in them. Works well for me.

Ziac is a beta blocker, telmisartan is a angiotensin receptor blocker...

Well you better not take any blood pressure medicine, because that’s what is going to happen eventually

Lowering your blood pressure isn't going to make your pecker limp... the opposite is often true.

Lisinopril is a good medication. 10mg is just the initial dose your doctor attempted. He may just increase the dose.

I started with lisinopril worked ok for me, then switched to norvasc 10mg. worked much better. Side effects negligible. changing my diet some and increasing cardio helped equally as much as meds....

Like said, it takes time to find the right meds, or combination of meds.

So, you're taking your BP at home, probably on one of those machines bought at WalMart or a drug store. Bring it to the Drs. office the next time you go so they can check it out to see just how accurate it is.

I had one of those for home use and it was showing relatively high readings but when read at the Drs. office I was well within normal range, so out it went.

Few things besides what everyone else said:
1) Take some steps to clean up your diet. Reduce your salt intake and change the types and amounts of carbohydrates you're eating. Small steps.
2) If stress is a factor, try taking L-Theanine. It's the stuff in green tea that calms folks down. Available OTC, about $10 for 90 days.
3) B12 and CoQ10. Get on it.

Be really really cautious about telling your Dr. to change your meds. Dad developed big problems with liver and kidneys due to Dr.'s changing meds too much. Those BP meds and then the meds to counter the side effects are pretty strong.

In Dad's case it was partly due to having so many Dr.'s due to moving around the nation for his job. Just about the time Tampa Dr. got his meds right we moved to NO and Dr. there, being a godlike being as they all are, decided to try a different regimen. Then the move to Memphis, then the move to Tulsa,... Also Dad went through the massive pharma pushes of the 70's and 80's where the reps were convincing Dr.'s to swap products all the time. "Hey Doc, new product that if you prescribe x times we'll send your family to Tahiti all expenses paid!" and 6 months or less later Tahiti is now Bermuda for pushing another product, followed in a few months by another destination bribe/payoff. And yeah, that kinda stuff was routine back then, now illegal for pharma corps to do it.

Best advice on BP control, stability. Find a good Dr., stay with that Dr.. Do not jump too soon from a med regimen to another. Find something that works and stick with it.

Tell the Dr. all of this. That's what they're for.

It's likely he will double the Lisinopril to 20mg.

Give it time. A month is barely anything. Where do you get your BP taken regularly? How do you do it? When are you taking it? etc.

Still try to lose weight. Even though you workout and stuff, thats still extra weight your body has to deal with. Im by no means saying to stop exercising and lifting weights, but just try to drop pounds.

It takes 2-3 weeks for Lisinopril to take full effect. He will probably increase you up to 20mg Lisinopril. Then either increase your HCTZ from 12.5 (I'm assuming that's what you are on) up to 25, or switch you over to chlorthalidone.

just on a diuretic here (25 mg/chlorthalidone). think my fluid in take or stress levels effect my pressures more then anything else. (6'-2"/195)

but i was 130/98

now 120 or less/80 or less

doc also put me on Lexapro (for the stress)

I take metoprolol and amlodipine. I have a nice pair of kidney stones that need to come out (but I'm having hell getting the removal scheduled) and the pain (aching pain, not the "throw me in the ditch and cover me in dirt" kidney stone pain) has ratcheted up my BP. 160/97 today.

Started off on something that I can't remember but it had no effect at all. Tried something else, same result. Finally settled on Valsartan (generic for Diovan) that works very well with no side effects. Valsartan was unavailable for a while and they switched me to losarten and lisonpril but both made me dizzy. Valsarten supply came back to normal and I'm back on that with same results as before

YMMV

BTW, anyone who's taking HCTZ alone or with their BP meds, don't take it within a couple hours of consuming caffeine or the two diuretics will double team you.
