Read this first as "Jordan Peele," and thought "Shouldn't this be on the M/TV board?

Damn, that sucks. Hopefully he makes a full recovery.

He's not a grifter; those people seek out their fame and money. He was thrust into the spotlight by SJWs, and he's frequently talked about how weird his rise was and how the odds say his fall will be just as fast.
He's not always consistent IMO and I don't think he's got all the answers to life. But I do think he's genuine.
Thank you. This is exactly right. I'm not looking for a guru, and I don't think he has ever sought to be one.

That all being said, I have never quite gotten why he became popular in the first place. I've watched a few of his videos purported to address various topics. Problem is, and maybe I'm just a simpleton, but his talks make absolutely no sense to me. He puts together word salads, gets very philosophical, and drones on and on in such a way that it becomes very difficult for the regular Joe to understand.
i think conservatives (rightly) cling to academics that take a stand against SJW and progressive agendas.
we have an entire set of educated "intelligentsias" in society telling us we're bigots and transphobic for saying "just because you want a dick and don't have one, doesn't make you a man, and just because you think you're a woman and cut your dick off doesn't make you one."
when somebody comes along that's on that side and says "WTF. Academia, y'all are crazy," we naturally gravitate towards it.
Same with people like Turley or Dersch. One side of the country controls so much of the dialogue, we get excited when one of them says enough is enough and hitch our wagon to them.
i'm not saying it's right or wrong. Peterson wasn't doing amazing things, but a guy saying " take care of your own shite and have some personal responsibility," is something that is central to conservative and individualist ideology. In a world where blaming others is the easy way out, his ideas gave a lot of hope that it could become a bit more mainstream.

Pretty sure he’s not an atheist.
He's not a believer per se...he's more of a Joseph Campbell Power of Myth kind of guy who sees value in spirituality and the life lessons of religious stories/traditions.

His attempts at going outside his field have been laughable. Zizek worked him in that debate hard. It was hilarious.

This is where I'm at. And I love the knee-jerk reaction from the left. These are the folks who are first to the defense of all sorts of awful behavior if the perp is from poverty, an ethnic minority, substance abuse, etc. Then, when (and I have to presume this began as a prescribed thing from a health care provider) someone they don't like, Rush Limbaugh or Jordan Peterson get caught in the same system that grabs so many unwittingly, these kind, advanced, "better" progressives just laugh and laugh.

I can't remember the details but I think his daughter had some affliction since birth that caused her constant pain as a child. They finally found some treatment when she was a young adult.

I'm embarrassed to have bought his dumb book after hearing him on a few podcasts a couple of years ago.
Writing a "rules for life" book while you're addicted to drugs is ballsy.
He's been extremely upfront about his history of depression and anxiety.

Not only that, but Democrats always go on and on about how we need to expand services for mental health, yet they're demonizing this guy for battling his mental health and dependency issues.

Yeah, that was it and Jordan started eating the same diet as his daughter.

Another article mentioned the family believed his best chance to survive was to detox under a medically induced coma, but they were having trouble finding a NA hospital that would do it

He went to Russia because he failed to detox before and wanted to be put under (induced coma) to bypass the withdrawals. It's not allowed in the US because its terribly risky as benzo withdrawl needs a real slow taper. He apparently (again, I read this on some other forums so not 100%) had multiple seizures under sedation and don't know how bad the damage really is. It was their last hope from what I've heard.
I took klonopin as prescribed for a few months not knowing the dangers. Getting off of it was fricking terrible and needless to say I have a new doctor now. Partly my fault as I should have done research on benzos first.
