Based on what I'm reading here, LSU only 'lost' one 4* in-state player, but processed or passed on 10 of them? Not passing judgement, so please keep your commentary to yourself. Just looking for help to understand this list for my own edification. Please reply with corrections and I'll try to update:
1 Boutte - LSU
2 Roy - LSU
3 Van Pran - lost to Georgia (never interested in LSU)
4 Gillory - LSU
5 Cooper - passed / soft offer only
6 Clayton - passed / soft offer only
7 Burns - processed
8 Reed - passed / soft offer only
9 Jenkins - processed?
10 Douglas - passed / soft offer only
11 Moore - LSU
12 Horton - passed / not even soft offer
13 Clark - passed / soft offer only
14 Williams - passed / soft offer only
15 Lee - passed / soft offer only
eta changes:
Reed: processed > passed
Jenkins: passed > processed
1 Boutte - LSU
2 Roy - LSU
3 Van Pran - lost to Georgia (never interested in LSU)
4 Gillory - LSU
5 Cooper - passed / soft offer only
6 Clayton - passed / soft offer only
7 Burns - processed
8 Reed - passed / soft offer only
9 Jenkins - processed?
10 Douglas - passed / soft offer only
11 Moore - LSU
12 Horton - passed / not even soft offer
13 Clark - passed / soft offer only
14 Williams - passed / soft offer only
15 Lee - passed / soft offer only
eta changes:
Reed: processed > passed
Jenkins: passed > processed

The staff ranks the players themselves. They don’t go by 247. They found better players out of state.

Boutte’s a 5 star on 247 now, correct?

how could Reed be processed if he was never committed to us in the first place? You need to switch him and Jenkings cus he actually was committed and processed

For every in state 4 star LSU “lost”, they signed another player who was ranked higher (with Van Pran being the exception). It’s pretty simple, get the best players possible.

Van Pran is probably only instate we missed on

The discussion really becomes “How do we value Louisiana recruits vs (equally talented/possibly higher-ranked) out-of-state recruits?”
I don’t think the staff has the “build the fence” mentality when they feel an out-of-state recruit is the better player. Obviously when the recruit is both from Louisiana and extremely talented, i.e. Boutte, Roy, etc., it’s a win/win for everyone involved.

I thought Burns was asked to wait until the second signing period and he wasnt happy about it and bolted. If thats true how could you consider him processed??

how is that not a form of 'processing'? Yes, LSU would still take him today, but when he was ready to sign, LSU said 'no'.

Why do you think he was asked to wait to sign? Cuz we thought we could get a better player. How else would you describe that situation?

But, yet, you post this one a public message board known for commentary.
Not every player is a good fit for a coaching staff. Some looking for handouts. There are reasons why O chose not to pursue further.

We took who we wanted period.

A lot those kids would have made it in previous classes.
With new philosophy and recent national success I don’t expect LSU to sign more than 10 or so in state kids per year under O.
Van Pran is the big one the coaches would have liked to have nabbed.

quote:Except we 'lost out' on one, right? That's really the entire point of my question? In the case of Van Pran, sounds like he was never LSU's to have, which is better than going head-to-head and losing.

1 Boutte - LSU
2 Roy - LSU
3 Van Pran - lost to Georgia (never interested in LSU) LSU really wants Van Pran, apparently he doesn't want us.
4 Gillory - LSU
5 Cooper - passed / soft offer only We signed Phillip Webb...much higher rating.
6 Clayton - passed / soft offer only We have Kevontre Bradford committed...higher ratings.
7 Burns - processed We signed Jordan Toles... much higher rating.
8 Reed - passed / soft offer only Again, we got our safety Jordan Toles
9 Jenkins - processed? We signed Guillory, Roy and Taylor...the first two have a much higher rating.
10 Douglas - passed / soft offer only Apparently the staff likes Moore better or Douglas wasn't interested in LSU.
11 Moore - LSU
12 Horton - passed / not even soft offer We signed BJ Ojulari...much higher rating.
13 Clark - passed / soft offer only We have Toles.
14 Williams - passed / soft offer only...likely just not talented enough.
15 Lee - passed / soft offer only[/quote] I feel like the coaches saw something they didn't like and slowly pulled the offer.
2 Roy - LSU
3 Van Pran - lost to Georgia (never interested in LSU) LSU really wants Van Pran, apparently he doesn't want us.
4 Gillory - LSU
5 Cooper - passed / soft offer only We signed Phillip Webb...much higher rating.

Up until this season the term "processed" has always been used to describe dropping someone from a team THAT HAD A SCHOLARSHIP.
Usually by encouraging him to transfer.
