I have always liked Pelini, but think his strength is as a DC. The salary is excessive.

I think Pelini will be really good. my question is like a lot of others have said "why $2 million" ? This leaves very little room for raises if he does great. Also why so much more than C. Ensminger?

I really like the hire. Won’t be hearing complaints about 3rd and Pelini I’m pretty sure. Dude likes to bring the heat.

Objectively, he's been out of the loop for a while. The last 5 years in FCS. 13 years since he roamed an SEC sideline.

Would other solid programs make such a hire? Probably not.

Downvote away cucks it is what it is. Much like E, it's another hire that would only happen under O.

One of the worst takes on here. I mean the guy could bust but Jesus what O has done he can do whatever he wants. O brought the best college football team in CFB history to LSU and DOMINATED. I trust O. He can give BP whatever he wants, dont care.

How do you know it leaves little room for raises? When has LSU in the last 10 years ever held back paying top dollar for assistant coaches?

This is all great, but the offenses in the SEC are on a substantially different level than they were 13 years ago.

I don't like this argument. It's not like this guy has been on Mars. I'm sure he knows exactly what new offenses are doing and has strategized how to defend it. It isn't like the SEC is the only level or conference in football with new age offensive designs. shite, they're doing this stuff from high school all the way to the NFL.

Are we only allowed to hire successful defensive coordinators that have been DCs in the SEC in the last 3 years? Because that candidate pool is quite small

I just have to chuckle at some of the responses to this hiring. Freaking idiots.

That’s what happens when you win a national title and bring in millions to the department
and if we backtrack a bit and end up firing some coaches down the road, these contracts make for some VERY LARGE buyouts.

Look, O get complete credit for this year. He brought in Brady and Burrow and it worked spectacularly. Aranda was already here, so I give O some credit for keeping him here, but Aranda wasn't O's hire.

Now we need to see where we go from here. With Brady, Burrow, Aranda gone, and a ton of starters too, we'll see what happens. If O keeps this train rolling, then I can see a salary boost. But the O raise was extreme. Very extreme. And Pelini for $2M?? My god.

If we drift back to 9-3, now we've got MASSIVE coaching contracts on the books.

Hopefully we have some left over for a good passing game coordinator...

Well, the football program made $56.6 million in profit last year. That total is bound to be higher after a championship season. Plus, we're now done paying Miles' buyout (was paying $1.6M a year). I think we'll manage.

people who are so happy to be back to Bo and the 4-3 to get more pressure please read below:

Sacks Under Bo:
2006: 39
2007: 37
2008: 28

Sacks under Aranda:
2016:36
2017:39
2018:34
2019:37

so... where are you getting this false hope from? Just curious. and Aranda's defense wasnt really about rushing the passer. so what does that say about Bo's?
