Vacuum sealed white rice has a shelf life of 30 years...vacuum sealed beans has a shelf life longer than that. I have 10 lbs of each stored in our pantry as a just in case.
What's the plan to cook it?

Having things ready isn't bad.
The electrical grid could be attacked and go down and not be doomsday.
That said, people prepping for end of days are going to be severly disappointed.

Some go way too far. However it’s smart to have a generator, short wave radio, 2 weeks supply of fuel and food, and plenty of guns and ammo.
This can be for something as simple as a hurricane, power outage, blizzard. And if shite really does hit the fan you aren’t caught completely unprepared

People that spend exorbitant amounts are a little crazy.
It doesn't hurt to do a few things to get you through a rough patch though. Just don't take it to extremes. Also, if you have enough bullets and can shoot straight, you'll do just fine the the apocalypse.

I’m not gonna lie if I was a multi millionaire I’d have a rural plot of land with a hidden underground facility stocked full of weapons and old military vehicles that I customized. Just because it would be awesome

Probably in a pot of water over a fire if I had to guess.

I grew up in the back woods of Mississippi and us country folks have been “prepping” forever. Every year I grow a large garden and can or freeze enough produce to last me throughout the year. I also plant fall, and winter gardens to supply fresh greens, carrots, beets, onions, etc.
if you were to look in my pantry you would see many jars of canned veggies, fruits, jams, jellies etc. hell at this moment I have over 25 quarts of fig preserves put up. I also keep a bunch of seed on hand and know how to save seed for the next garden.
I guess my point is that even though I think the doomsday prepares are nuts it is never wrong to have a back up plan

Well that would just be excessive. I don't think anyone should do that. Unless you're my friend.

Yea kinda like us over here in rural swla. We hunt, fish, grow a garden, and can stuff a little. Keep more guns than I really "need" and enough ammo to hold authorities off a few days if it came to that. Don't really "prep", it more of just normal life. If this coronavirus was to amp up, Id take a few precautions and call it good. We could stave it off a year or two if need be.

I think some of their ideas seems a little less crazy, as time marches on. Some parts of society aren't getting any better.

I find the premise hilarious. You have 5 weeks of supplies. Ok, what happens then? If it’s a big enough shitstorm it won’t matter how good your supplies are. Just delaying your demise

Survival condos

In 2008, Larry Hall purchased a retired missile silo — an underground structure made for the storage and launch of nuclear weapon-carrying missiles — for $300,000 and converted it into apartments for people who worry about Armageddon and have cash to burn.
Fortified shelters, built to withstand catastrophic events from viral epidemic to nuclear war, seem to be experiencing a wave of interest in general.
Hall's Survival Condo Project, in Kansas, cost about $20 million to build and accommodates roughly a dozen families. Complete with food stores, fisheries, gardens, and a pool, the development could pass as a setting in the game "Fallout Shelter," wherein players oversee a group of postapocalyptic residents in an underground vault.

Right. I meant you better have water (depending on disaster), fuel, and a way to stave off others who are interested in "participating" in your planning.
