Do Ali Gaye or McClendon project as 4-3 rush ends? I guess we could throw Soni Fonua in that group too.
I do agree that we will need to be creative in a 4-3 with out a classic pash rushing end.

When we played a 4-3. With 250 or less defensive ends. The good teams ran right over us. Bama ran right at our defensive ends. Our line was under sized
With the 3-4 we put three very big guys on the line. And we could compete. When we finally got a nose tackle we were mostly able to stop the run.
If we have hand in the dirt DE like Marcus Spears who weighed at least 280. That is a different story.

Seeing as we likely go to a 4-3 w/ a new DC
shite we gonna have 8 dbs at all times on the field for our defense, the way SEC West shaping out. Leach & Kiffin in town

We never had a dominant NT and now we have 2...maybe 3. But let’s just move back to a 4-3 base. Makes sense.

Yeah but can he cover a WR is the question

would we switch to 4-3 with no pure 4-3 defensive ends? Farrell and Logan are DTs, and do we really want Andre Anthony and Ray Thornton on the field that much?
I don’t see us eliminating the nose tackle position next year anyway with Shelvin and Ika both being too good to keep on the sideline.
How often are teams in a 7-man front base defense anyway? Typically there’s 5 DBs on the field, and/or 4 DBs and that LB/Safety hybrid position Stevens played this year.
If you’re the DC, Do you just play Shelvin and Ika as traditional 4-3 DTs? Are they on the field at the same time? Do you rotate them at one spot and rotate Logan and Farrel at the other? Or are Logan and Farrel your starting DEs?
Seems the difference between a 4-3 DE and a 3-4 OLB is about 10-15 pounds. Do our returning DEs from this past year try to slim down to 270-275 or do they maintain their weight or even add some to move inside? If the latter, who are the DEs?
I’ve been seeing a lot of talk on here about moving to a 4-3 since the Aranda news, but I have a hard time envisioning that happening by next season. It would seem we’d need a year or two to recruit some guys or bring in a few grad transfers to better fit that scheme.
I could easily be wrong, but it’s just hard for me to see it happening by next year. The guys on the defensive front were brought in to fit Aranda’s scheme, and I can’t see the coaches risking losing games just to force a philosophical change into a narrow timeframe.

We didn't defend bamas rushing attack any better this year or last than we did 2009-14 with Chavis and his 240lb DEs.
The only difference this year was they couldn't keep up.

I disagree on Farrell. He is very athletic and fast. If Thomas comes back he is another. Then we have Cherry, Fonua, and Gaye.

What? No we didn't not have the same guys as we have had previously we have 2 possibly 3 true NT last year we had none, Shelvin showed up big-time and right in time with ika and now we have guillory... 4-3 is fin nothing wrong with it but as of today our dudes know and have played 3-4.. why completely change it? Having packages of both just like we have been is what we need and maybe your right and we start to play more 4-3 but I think it needs to be eased in just bc we finally have the studs to actually play a 3-4 so don't understand the change the wheel mentality some people with your pov have rn

Farrell, Logan & Thomas gained weight to play 3-4 end. They could lose it & go to 4-3 if they wanted.
Regardless, the argument about base defense is not that important, as it is played much much less than ones with 5 & 6 DBs
