Anybody else watch this yet? I had high hopes for this, but I honestly thought it was awful.

Now a pilot episode of a comedy series isn't always gold, so I really hope this is a thread I feel foolish for starting later. That said, it had a lot of cringeworthy moments.

Anybody else have any thoughts?

I enjoyed it. I like Hugh Laurie in a less serious role.

The time delays and gravity problems were kinda funny.

In a comedy i think Jared from Silicon Valley is hilarious.

I thought it was pretty terrible as well. The editing sucked too.

I haven’t watched it yet but I’m trying to understand how the plot is supposed to last long term

The first episode lays that out.

I won’t go so far as saying it was awful, but I was disappointed. Sci fi comedies are tough, but I had hoped the Veep crew could pull it off. Didn't come close unfortunately. Cool setting and one or two laughs aside, it was very blah. And I agree with the poster who noted the trash editing. There were a couple shots and transitions that were film school bad. Going to have to see a massive improvement to continue watching long term.

Spoilers...

I didn’t buy that but at all. There’s exactly a 0% chance that any sort of space voyage like that wouldn’t build in course correcting thrusters for some sort of emergency.

I mean, I get that a small course deviation could cause massive change in trajectory off a catapult around a moon. But come on, surely a space craft THAT advanced would have trustees capable of adjusting course 0.2 degrees over the course of the 3 hours they had before reaching titan.

Might be nit picking, but for a sci-fi show, that just struck me as a completely illogical primary challenge.

Also the budget Jack Black didn't add anything of value to the show. The editing was horrible agreed. I'm not totally writing it off yet but they'll really have to do some work to pull me in again.

I like the premise.

From the trailer I was expecting it to be awful. It was better than my low expectations so I will continue to watch.

Jared had a few good lines. They know exactly how to use him.

I think you were nit picking.

I viewed it as a lost ocean cruise ship thing but in space comedy rather than a space science comedy. Kinda like the tbs show wrecked, but in space.

They’re still humans the crew is riddled with unfortunate-for-their-position/job character flaws. The compounds seem like their junk anyway, everyone knows Hugh from a disaster in another.

I read some mixed reviews, but I thought it was pretty solid. I laughed quite a bit.

I agree, I probably am. I was just hopeful that this would be a true sci fi comedy, since those are so very very rare. But I agree with your assessment; the show appears to be more of a comedy in a sci fi setting than a sci fi comedy, so I suppose they won’t be meticulous with the plot beyond just being adrift in space. Which isn’t a deal breaker, but it does lessen my enthusiasm for the show a bit.

I guess I'm the only one in here that thought it was hilarious.

The jokes were very fast, but I get they were trying to set up the show in the first episode.

I enjoyed the first episode alright, a few good moments here and there. Episode 2 was much better. They are starting to hit their groove with the jokes and putting the story together. There is a lot of potential with it I think, plus Hugh Laurie nails his character as usual.

The unhappy married couple are the same actors from "She's Out of My League"

I saw a brief description of it as a passenger cruise ship voyage in space, with laughs. Is that the idea. Sort of a outer space Love Boat?
