Know how "popular" star gazing is here but HAVE to ask about 247

I look at the ratings of LSU signees and admit it although I do watch videos too. is up with 247's own ratings of LSU signees/commits. There are 22 listed for LSU. Out of those 22, 247 itself rates 18 of those WORSE than the overall composite of ESPN, Scouts, Rivals, and their own. Only 4 are rated better than the composite and those very little higher where some of the LSU prospects by them are hundreds of rankings lower national. Do we call that the 247 LSU dip? That is more than just coincidence IMO.

What do you think it is then?

I guarantee you recruits care more about the number of players a program puts in the league than the number of stars a recruiting site gives them.

Everyone is out to get LSU

It's not a coincidence that the majority of LSU prospects 247 does not have great evaluations on. Most of our recruiting comes from Louisiana which has shite resources for evaluations on every single recruiting website. Who cares. LSU puts more players in the NFL than anyone else. That's your gauge.

IMO, espn has the most accurate reviews.

noticed that a while back. Almost every LSU commitment is rated way lower by 247 than by ESPN and Rivals.
take our two QB's for example, Max Johnson is rated 251 by the composite and 588 by 247
TJ Finley is rated 492 by the composite and 736 by 247
This bothers me due to I always considered 247 the best of the recruit services sites. But whether it is 492 or 736 for Finley and 251 or 588 for Johnson, I am sure our coaching staff sees something in them much higher than that or they wouldn't have offered. Out of all the ratings, seems the coaching staff does the best at evaluating them.

Look, I don’t have inside scoop on how this is done, but as a business owner I can guess. 247 is a for profit company. They make profit by having revenues exceed costs. Obvious, right?
Their revenue comes from eyeballs, so they want to publish stuff that will get the most eyeballs on their site. There’s only about 5 million folks in Louisiana, so that’s not where the money is. Therefore they are going to over-rate guys from Ohio, Pennsylvania, and all kinds of populous places.
Now let’s talk about the other half of the equation, costs. It costs money to seriously evaluate all those players, so to keep their costs down they don’t. So how do they rate them if they don’t evaluate them in person or on film? They use free evaluators. Now, who evaluates all of the potential college recruits, and will tell you for free? College football teams, that’s who. So, how do we know which guys are the best? By who has offered them.
I would guess that 247 has a spreadsheet, or database, that assigns values based on who has offered. If you were building 247’s database formulas, and 10 was the highest number, who would have to offer a kid for you to give a ten? Bama, that’s who. Up until this year, you would have assigned the biggest number to a Bama recruit who had a committable offer. Now, guess what school will have every recruit with at least a ten? Bama, of course.
Let’s say a Bama offer is 10, and Ohio State offer is 9, an LSU offer is 8 and a Clemson offer is 7 (remember this system is designed a couple of years before the year in question). And assume that they only count your four best offers.. A Bama commit was offered by 3 teams totaling 24 points plus Bama, so that commit gets a total of 34 points. An LSU commit is offered by three teams equaling the same 24 points plus LSU, and that commit ends with 32 points. Simply because one was offered by Bama and one by LSU there is a two point difference in this example.
That’s the Bama bounce everyone knows exists, and it makes perfect sense - until Bama’s recruiting gets equaled or exceeded. I think this has happened, and that Bama recruiting classes are now overweighted. That will continue until the results on the field make it apparent that Bama is not dominant anymore. When that happens they will adjust their formulas.

There you go. Someone just posted a thread about how Sampah is looking like one of the best players at the Polynesian bowl. Looked up his rating: on the composite he is rated 64, not to bad, on 247 he is rated more than double that at 149, which looks way to low. Why is that?
Will be interesting to see what 247 does with these guys, like Antoine Sampah, Kayshon Boutte, and Jaquelin Roy, who all balled out at the all star games, and played above their rankings. McKinley Jackson (hope we get him) and Dwight McGlothern should also get huge bumps in the ratings.

247 sucks, plain and simple. The website sucks. The ratings suck. The evaluaters suck.
They do have videos and news though.
