His official role was a GA, but he coached TE's. So doing full time work, getting GA pay.

seems like recruiting the #1 TE in the country would help him to get a pay raise? I guess I don't know the full story here. Just seems odd.

He was a GA here and that is a full time position

This is old news.
He was only a GA here.

Ok I think the story threw me as they referred to him as GA and Tight End coach

It looks like it did.

Graduate assistants are not allowed to recruit.

Went from GA to paid position.
We don’t have any of those available on staff.

(to board) Wasn't his time limit as GA up also?

He was pretty much the acting TE coach from what I've heard.
I don't fault him for going somewhere else for a full time gig.

That's my understanding. You can't be a GA for more than 2 or 3 years or something.
I think GAs can be more hands on in practice than analysts, which is why he was able to serve as a position coach in his capacity. Where someone like Munoz was restricted from doing that.

You don’t know what a GA is. Stands for Graduate Assistant.

The Rant is officially back.
How long until the fire this coach and that coach starts?

Pretty sure this is incorrect. A school can have around 30 designated recruiters. Some can only recruit on-campus and all recruiters have to be identified to the NCAA by the program.
What they are not allowed to do is get paid.
The compensation package for a graduate assistant coaching job varies. Average pay for a full-time, 20 hour per week, graduate assistant coaching job is $7500 for the academic year.

Good point. I know they are limited to I believe 10 of campus recruiter. It would be impossible to police on campus GA recruiting. However, it is unlikely a GA would have much influence on recruiting.

- 3rd year is consecutive
- took 24 hrs of grad classes in the previous 2 years.
I thought, could be wrong, his 2 yrs was up without the hours taken so he's done here at LSU.
quote:correct can't 'coach' players. But that's with the antiquated definition of a 'coach'. They can't sit down with players and dissect film, literally in the same room. But then they can turn around and dissect the same film, add commentary, put in analysis, make a 'flyer' showing tendencies, and then upload all that to a players iPad for review.
I think GAs can be more hands on in practice than analysts, which is why he was able to serve as a position coach in his capacity. Where someone like Munoz was restricted from doing that.
The ironic thing is on an on-campus visit a recruit can talk and go over film directly with them. It's a great marketing ploy to show recruits 'behind the curtain' and promote a program, not just a coach.
ETA: and don't forget the somewhat antiquated definition of 'practice' is a set 20hrs a week divided up. So are you 'coaching' if not at 'practice'? Point being, there's loopholes.
