Escaping Chicago - moving to Dallas

The day is finally here - the latest round of tax increases has pushed us over the edge. It is simply unfeasible to live in Chicago/Illinois any longer. Luckily, I secured a transfer to our Dallas, TX office.
I know nothing about DFW and have only been to Texas a handful of times. Any tips from area residents would be extremely helpful. Family of 4, office is in the crescent area (downtown?).

Seems like you would've done research on the place you were moving to before making a life altering change.

Stock up on jean shorts and Dak Prescott jersey's.

Been in Dallas for 2 years, Texas for 16 total. Nothing like it. Dallas is amazing.

North Dallas area is fully developed with nice neighborhoods and good public schools.
If you want land, look to the suburbs south of Dallas.
Both areas are nice and commute into downtown will be about the same, just depends on if you want some land or a true neighborhood/suburb feel.

You get the most for your money in North Dallas, if you can handle the commute.
Any city in Collin County is great(I recommend Allen, Frisco, McKinney, and Prosper), with A+ public schools.

Leave your warm clothing in Chicago

So you traded freezing your arse off in the winter to sweating your arse off in the summer.

You’re bout to go from looking at ugly arse midwestern women all day to some gooood shite. Your wife will be suspicious when you offer to go do the grocery shopping.

Crescent? Are you in PE?
I live in Las Colinas and the crescent is about 15-20 minutes avoiding traffic.
If you are catholic and look at Las Colinas The Highlands School is a very good catholic school. PM me for more on either.

Please don't be one of those carpetbaggers who moves away from an area to the South because of liberal policies... yet votes in the new area to institute the same liberal policies that forced you to flee in the first place.
You're a fellow Vol so I doubt this is the case.

Is Uptown.
Where you live depends on the order of things that you value. School district, home value, location, commute, etc.

Congrats!
There are things I miss about Chicago but still happy I left 6 years ago.
And even with all the recent tax increases, nothing is fixed or even better. The poop has not even come close to hitting the fan in that city/state.

Sorry on the downgrade. Gotta do what you gotta do.

Congrats on the move and to chime in with little new information, the area around Frisco is amazing. You will experience a nice boost in living provided that your income stays relatively the same as Chicago.

It is a consumer's dream and a great place to conduct business. Lots of competition for whatever you need, so prices are competitive. Great schools and a great university system and no state income tax is what draws most to the great state of Texas.
Countless day trips and weekend getaways, and this is the perfect time of year for that.
