What does the twist of lemon do

It cuts the bitterness just a bit Paul. Do it mostly with Jack Daniels and the like. Normally won't use the twist with higher end well aged whiskies.

Dudes hate on the mixers but will drink an old fashioned. Comical

The only thing in my old fashioned that doesn't contain alcohol is the sugar cube and the orange peel garnish.

If you're comparing an old fashioned to your typical jack and coke/sprite drink, I guarantee you muddle an orange and cherry.

This is my general response...

quote:

Depends on the quality of the bourbon. Premium bourbon is consumed neat, mid tier with an ice cube and anything else should only be used as part of a cocktail.

Although if I'm drinking something lower mid-tier will often go with full rocks.

With ice and a bit of Topo Chico and a slight squeeze of like.

The more I drink the less Topo goes in.

I like a single ice cube or two. It lowers the temp just *slightly* and provides a trace of water to round it out without diluting it.

If I'm feeling a mixed drink I'll mix with coke. But my preference is an old fashioned.

Drinking it neat gives me instant heartburn.
