Like to hear the libertarian reaction to Trump's handling of Iran...

Several of you were having a hissy about going to congress, and Trump getting us into a protracted war with Iran, etc.
So now it appears that Trump's, and what many of you call the neocon action against Iran, was in fact the absolute correct move. Iran appears to have re-learned the fact that when we have a president with balls, we can wreck their shite at the drop of a hat, and we don't have to sacrifice as much as a papercut to do it.
The purpose of this thread is twofold. Consider it a place to explain how the Trump (neocon) action wasn't exactly the correct course to take with Iran.
Or, consider it a place to publicly admit that the libertarian sky screaming, waiting on Nancy Pelosi to give her blessing (while more Americans are killed or maimed) was in fact bullshite, and stupid.
Go!

there is a lot of incomplete information. how much the "attack" yesterday was coordinated with Iran matters a great deal'
if it wasn't, and we just got lucky, this was way too aggressive and close to Iraq Vol. 3

I don't know any libertarians of whom you speak.
There is nothing that Trump has done that is inconsistent with libertarian philosophy. Freedom = protection of property and self. Terrorism violates both.

But did Trump legalize pot?
Posted on 1/8/20 at 1:22 pm to troyt37
I assume part of a libertarian response would be why are there Americans in Iraq for Iran to target to begin with?
And whatever that reason is, why can't the countries there deal with it?

The hate for libertarians and libertarian-leaning people here is weird

Well, it can be confusing. Bill Maher claimed that he was a libertarian. I've known people IRL who claimed they were Libertarian/Marxists.

Libertarians are cringe for the most part and have brought the hate on themselves

I don't think it's hate....the libertarians are like Dems in they don't have 1 set of ideas/ideals.....they're kind of all over the place and are hellbent on pot being legal.

I lean Libertarian. I’m not a registered libertarian. I tend to want us to get the hell out of foreign countries. But I’m not a dove. If you hit us, I want hellfire and destruction waged upon you.
I believe the takeout on solemani was justified due to the attack on the embassy that he planned, regardless of whether he was planning something else. But the fact that he was actually in Iraq leads me to believe he was in fact planning attack on our people. If you set a redline, and the enemy crosses, there has to be a response and a true show of force.
If I had my druthers we would have left the day the rest of the assholes aligned with Iran voted for their dumb resolution to have us leave. But it all worked out well anyway.
Trump’s indication that he won’t retaliate is perfect. It shows that we only will take such drastic measures if you actually attack Americans and harm them, not if you just posture. They didn’t hit us, they just had a swing and a miss.
Couldn’t be more pleased.

Yeah, for some reason, there has been some ideas thrown out that such things are possible. Not sure where that started.

Eh, I think people around here see that libertarians support ideas from both sides and it drives them up the wall. It's the anti-tribe mentality that usually draws the most ire.

I still don't believe any true libertarians exist.

Trump has handled the situation very well IMO.
But I think you may be confusing the term "libertarian" with the term "liberal" or "progressive". The ideologies are very different.

I’ve always been confused about how anyone can want that much gvt in their lives and call themselves a liberal of any type

Iraq is what it is because of nation-building. Iran with Trump as President has a snowball's chance in hell of becoming another Iraq under Bush or Obama.

That and the support of open borders, the worshipping of corporations, and the promotion of rampant degeneracy

Don't quote me but I believe the justification they give for that is that because all your basic necessities are taken care of by the state, you're not beholden to the task of providing for yourself, thus making you "free". But, a fundamental tenet of marxism is no private property, so I don't know how they come up with this shite.
