It’s possible that Iran doesn’t want war. The missile launch indicated they didn’t want severe casualties that would escalate it.

It’s an interesting back and forth. Will Trump push for escalation or will this little dance be the end of the shooting?
One thing that is concerning about the missile strikes is that there has not been a report that the US air defenses intercepted any missiles. Perhaps that is the message which is being sent here, that Iran can hit any target in the Middle East also. That is a serious concern which has to be taken into account.

Or, since we knew they weren't killing anyone or destroying anything important, we didn't want to reveal our true anti-missile capability.
