That logo reminds me of when there were NBA games in the old Loyola Field House featuring the New Orleans Jazz and Hot Rod Hundley was the broadcaster. Those early Jazz teams featured two white guys at the guard position-Gail Goodrich and Pistol Pete Maravich. Anybody else go to these games? I remember the 7-0 tall center Rich Kelly and Aaron James ,their first ever pick out of Grambling.

They should be the raptors because Utah raptors were a legit thing and badass. Toronto can choose a new name. Give us the Jazz

I was there but Goodrich came later not at Loyola with the Net around the court! Saw Pete and Rick Barry go back and forth. Over 40 each!

New Orleans Jazz is and will be the greatest possible name for a New Orleans team. Maybe New Orleans Gangstas is a close second

You're correct, I believe Goodrich was the '76 season.

I really really wanted the Voodoo name. Woulda been epic to have a voodoo witch doctor instead of that gay pelican mascot. Would have sold so much more merchandise 2

Barry Mendelson the GM traded the Jazz #1 pick for Gail Goodrich. The Lakers selected Magic Johnson with that pick.

Not exactly.
This was in the days before true free agency- original team was still entitled to some compensation. Jazz signed him to a deal. Commisioner and league office determined the "compensation", which were several draft picks including the 1st round pick a few years later (1979) when the Jazz were last and Magic left school.
Goodrich on Jazz "trade"

Should've done a three way trade:
New Orleans Hornets -> New Orleans Jazz
Utah Jazz -> Utah Bobcats
Charlotte Bobcats -> Charlotte Hornets
New Orleans Hornets -> New Orleans Jazz
Utah Jazz -> Utah Bobcats
Charlotte Bobcats -> Charlotte Hornets
