I agree - kids at a young age are far more susceptible to their environment and stimuli.
This video, in my opinion, is a strong reason why you shouldn't let your kids 'choose' their gender as a kid...

American Girl also makes their dolls without hair and has other accessories that would help be supportive of kids with disabilities.
It's a great company. Glad the hearing impaired kids now have a doll they can related with.
