What happens if the saints get a first round bye and play on January 12th?

I imagine they’re capable of turning the field over overnight to the CFP layout but damn I imagine that is quite the logistical task for the field crew and the CFP. Anybody got any insight into the details of all that? I grew up going to sporting events at DCs multipurpose arenas so converting it overnight or on quick turnarounds for dozens of different types of events has always fascinated me.

They would probably make that game on Saturday. I imagine this has been already planned out.

Is that already determined? Or does the nfl work with teams for that pending previously scheduled events.

They’d probably schedule the Saints game for Saturday to give some extra time, just like they did in 2011 when the Saints played the Lions right before the BCSNCG.

1 day turnarounds are not uncommon. This will be two...

Tulane used to play in the Dome on Saturday night.

Doesn't take very long to repaint.

I could swear I saw a time lapse video of them changing the Dome field. Wasn't after a Tulane game but the concept applies.

No big deal. I think the Falcons played at home the day after the SECCG.

Jerrys world changed field from penn state/memphis to cowboys with 1 day turnover. Most of the field stayed the same, endzones rolled up, rolled "cowboys" endzones into the vacant spot... looked pretty simple. Im sure they did the same with the other smaller logos

The CFP almost certainly just has four endzones and a field made and shipped to the game site once they select the teams. Then, no matter what happens, you just roll up the stadium turf and roll out the CFP field. Remember that it's not just the endzones. The hash marks, the yard numbers, the center field graphic, the side graphics, etc., will all be different on an NFL standard playing surface than what it will be for the CFP surface.

A new playing surface is cheap when you're talking about the overall cost of a production like this. The field turf website says about $4.75 a square foot with 80,000 square feet for a football field, so under half a million bucks. Even if it's three times that cost, that's a pittance for an event this large with this many eyes on it.
