I used to think nothing but good things about Steve Scalise.
And now I don't trust him after his blatant absenteeism from the Governor's race where he never ever laid a broadside or even a single word into JBE being one of the worst Governors we've ever had.
If Steve Scalise runs for Governor in 2023, especially if democrats keep the house, it will confirm him as an opportunist looking for a backup plan, and I will be inclined to support someone else, especially after he was begged and pleaded with to run for Governor this year by Trump, Rispone, quite a few donors and business leaders in the state.

Once it was disclosed who the group he spoke to supported (David Duke) he immediately said if he had known that beforehand he would not have spoken to them.

The only way Scalise would leave to run for Governor is if the GOP does not retake the house in 2020 or 2022. Scalise would be house majority leader if GOP takes the house with a chance to be speaker if something happens to McCarthy.
And you have to factor in the assumption that JBE will be replaced by a republican and will hold the Governor's office for 8 years and who knows when/if the GOP retakes the house or how long Kevin McCarthy will stay on as House GOP leader.
People who climb the political leadership ladder don't want to be #2 forever.
Basically some windows are open for a limited amount of time and you don't know when the other windows are opening.
With all that said, I really think the GOP has a very good chance of retaking the majority in 2020 and will render this Scalise for Governor speculation moot.

He knew he was speaking to white supremacists. If he was a decent person he never would gone and spoke. I give him credit though for getting away with it without any problems. It's why he's a successful politician.

Your insistence that Steve owed it to whoever to leave his post in the US Senate and run for Governor of the state is one of the most ridiculous takes I have ever read on here, and that is saying something.

He is entrenched in a position to help Louisiana...and you wanted him to give that up to bail out the shite stain that we call the Republican Party of Louisiana.
I told you from the get go that our candidates were weak as frick and that we were going to have a tough time ousting JBE with whomever we put forward.
Shame on the La. GOP and thank God Louisiana still has Steve Scalise in a position of influence.

That take was shared repeatedly by people that are far more influential than you and I like Eddie Rispone and Donald Trump. They asked him to run and he said no, and that is his right to do so.
I'm not alone in my opinion on this.
If Scalise changes his mind and runs in 2023 because Speaker and House GOP leader didn't pan out for him, I will support someone else and that is also my right to do just that.

The fact that people think the LAGOP is the end all be all for whoever runs is silly.
The LA GOP is not why JBE is still Governor.
JBE is still Governor because Eddie Rispone insisted on running a shitty campaign.
And in the same year, republicans got a supermajority, came within two votes of that in the house, every other statewide office outside of Governor is republican and a majority on the state supreme court as well.

JBE was beatable.
And he was beatable only if the GOP candidates ran smart, focused, competent and disciplined campaigns.
That did not happen.
