Yeah, that makes sense. I suppose my thinking was stuck back in the day. We had kids on my team that really weren't big enough for the d or o lines, not fast enough for receiver or RB and really couldn't fit anywhere, but were athletic. I was looking at it as being exclusive, when I should have been looking at it as being really being able to play multiple positions or inclusive.

I always mean to keep up with those labeled athletes but never do. LSU usually gets a very highly rated one each year. I tend to view them as what I would call a "flanker", a short route receiver, but I really don't know.

I take it you didn't play NCAA 2014 on Xbox.

Recruits designated as athletes usually are expected to be able to play a couple of positions but don't have one position that's clearly better for them than the other.

Didn't some recruiting services consider Devin White an Athlete because they didn't know if he's play LB or RB?

Slot WR, Safety, or APB is the correct answer

Kind of off topic but why aren’t dual threat qbs considered athletes? I mean the way football is going now most qbs are able to move around and make plays with their feet?

ATH is what they put you at if you project to several positions. I've seen guys at 6'7 240-250 being placed as athletes.

Wasn't Russell Shepard a five star athelete?

In case you're serious, Shepard was the #1 Dual Threat QB in 2009.

ETA: I didn't look up other than 247. Here is what I found

Sheppard was listed as a #1 Dual Threat QB on 247 and Rivals but as the #1 ATH on ESPN.

it depends, ath is usually reserved for recruits who are recruited to play multiple positions usually on both sides of the ball

If you want to see the ATH position defined IRL, then reference:

Hill, Taysom - New Orleans Saints

WTF are atheletes?

Most people with an IQ of 50+ could figure this out.

But why dont you give it at least a guess. We're pulling for you.

Incorrect. Athlete is designated for kids who play one position in high school but are projected for a different one in college. This is because many high schools put their best player at QB or RB and have little to no experience at other positions. For the most part these athletes end up being a skill position player(WR,RB,CB,S).

Not necessarily. Christian Harris, for example, didn't play ILB in high school, but was projected to play there and was listed as an ILB recruit. Same with Bryton Constantin at OLB.

Then you have guys like Devonta Lee and Mikiya Tongue who both played WR in high school, play WR in college, and were listed as athletes in recruiting.

Yes sir. He would have been ranked higher but he claimed in high school that he wanted to be a RB and his ranking dropped and they listed him as an Athlete.

Darrel Williams was listed as an athlete on some sites. Devin White also. Russell Sheppard too. Bama usually gets one of these every year.
