Damn that sucks. I looked for mine for years and pulled the trigger on my 16800 a few years ago before they went crazy on prices. Do you follow the Facebook Rolex for sale pages? I feel like I’ve seen some of that era that are somewhat reasonable but it’s hit or miss.

I haven't but I will look into that group. I follow rolexforum almost religiously and not exclusively for Rolex. I've almost pulled the trigger a few times but because that reference is so limited (88-89) I am not buying without original papers which is hard to come by therefore increases the purchase price. I'll continue to look and wait it out.

I have a $70 mechanical invicta. Seamaster bezel. Too poor to own something like that and I don't think I'd want to anyway

Question about the super high end brands. How durable are they. Will you knock a Patek out of kilter by bumping into a door frame? And how difficult is getting them serviced. Can you get them worked on here or do you have to send them back to Switzerland and wait a year?

I bought a $20 Rolex on Canal St. in NYC about 15 years ago. It stopped working two weeks after, but still have the watch somewhere.

I think it was actually 87-88. What is your birth year?

I picked up a Bluesy today from my local AD. The deep blue color looks so good in person. Still on the waitlist for the GMT II Pepsi and Batman. Hopefully one will come in within the next couple of months.

Not sure what it's worth. I never wear it. It is expensive, keeps shitty time and costs alot for reconditioning every 3-5 years.
You never wear it but have it “reconditioned” every 3-5 years? Seems like a strange thing to do. Maybe you should have the movement serviced if it doesn’t keep proper time. Odd scenario.

depending on serial I guess it could fall in 87. I’ve seen more in 89 than 88. 88 is my birth year.

I have a GMT Master II in black and red. Have had it for over 20 years. It is an amazing watch has been serviced by Rolex about 5 years ago.

Rolex’s been crushing the S&P for a while now.

Do you have a rec for a nato or anything other than leather for my 16800? I had Michael young do my bracelet and it’s amazing but the clasp is giving me some issues and it’s honestly starting to worry me. While I get this sorted out do you have a rec on a good alternative preferably with a deployment clasp? I have a cheapo I bought for the when MY had it but it’s crappy and I don’t trust it.

The old joke about figuring out if a rolex is real or not is you throw it as hard as you can at a brick wall. If its still working, it's a real rolex. They are supposed be extremely durable.
Few people do, but they're made to handle a lifetime of use and abuse.

Send your watch to a Rolex Service Center and have them fix of replace your band and clasp.

They aren’t that fragile, but they aren’t that durable either. If you are not careful I would avoid non sports watches (I take mine off to wash my hands, shower, when I’m washing the dishes, etc.). Gold is soft and will dent easily.
My sports watches, I wear without care.
Most watches nowadays, unless unmodified ETA/Sellita movements, will have to go to Switzerland (or Germany or Japan etc.). Maintenance is just part of the cost. However, maintenance intervals are fairly long.
