It’s sad to think he was going pro last year. He is not a point guard and not even an NBA player at this point. No one on this team is NBA caliber

He’s hurting us much more than helping us. Forces too many shots and needs to look to the guys that have put LSU in the top 5 scoring in the paint in the NCAA. He was the reason we lost the game tonight!!

Doesn't create any shots for teammates and is playing shitty defense without effort.

What this team needs is a true point guard

Spot on assessment, sometimes committing to getting to the rim is ok but teams have seen you play for a year now and you better evolve and mix it up (pass, pull up jumper or finishing at the rim off the dribble should be the options). WW is to blame here also, because he should give him his expectations and Javonte's role as the PG and it's clear that hasn't been stated. Mayes should be the PG and I think JS would be a lot more productive at the 2.

Smart is not a team player. Days, Williams and Watford can get better percentage shots. If Smart has the ball, he is more likely to take a poor percentage shot before he passes the ball to one of the forwards. His passing is atrocious. He is not a three-point option. If he drives to the basket he will force a shot rather than feed an unguarded team mate. He is a detrimate to the offense. The coaches have had an opportunity to see this and process it. If they let him muck up the works, the PMAC will revert to the days of Johnny Jones.

I cringe every time he goes into the game or gets the ball in his hands..he seems to break the rhythm of the offense when they seem to be on a roll... Saturday’s game was a prime example with LSU taking a 5 point lead just into the 2nd half with LSU having the ball and he doesn’t run any kind of offense before he chunks a 3 point shot with 17 seconds on the shot clock.,.when you’ve been struggling shooting the ball that’s the lowest percentage shot you can take is behind the 3 point line... where’s his basketball IQ at that time?...even the announcer was downing him for doing that...

Just posted this in the other thread but more appropriate here...

Smart seems to DERRRRP! a lot. He had that great stretch last year where it seemed like he’d be reliable but that hasn’t come to pass.

Thing is that when he does finally figure it out so to speak, he’s gonna be really, really good. I suspect that’s why Wade has given him so much leeway.

Skylar is an established PG, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Wade swaps them at 1 and 2 at some point. That is assuming that the light doesn’t come on for Javonte before Wade reaches his limit.

We’re having a lot of the same problems we had early last season. Changing the way our point guard plays is a major one. If you remember this happened with Waters too, his scoring and attempts were down by over 5 ppg and close to an assist per game with his turnovers sky high compared to SEC play. Now it’s happening with Smart. He’s indecisive, he’ll beat his man then stop and look to pass, getting into trouble, where last season he lived at the line because nobody could stay in front of him. This kid is a scorer at heart and last season when he filled in for a sick Waters he cut out Tennessee’s heart. This is a Wade problem and if he doesn’t want Smart to be a score first point guard just move him off the ball and let Mays play the point. We’ve wasted any chance at a pre-conf resume and if it doesn’t change the entire season will be a waste.

Javonte has been playing much better over the past three games. He just needs to keep playing like he has been and we will be fine.
