How come Richard Pryor movies weren't that funny?

His best one had Gene Wilder carrying most of the load. The rest just weren't that funny, nothing like Eddie Murphy's.

Hear No Evil, See No Evil was one of the only ones I really liked and Gene Wilder absolutely carried that one

I saw Peyor doing stand up live in the early and mid 70s ... he was hilarious.

His particular brand of comedy didn't translate well to the big screen bit he still had some funny movies.

Gene Wilder and he were good together. It takes two to really tango in comedy .... Murphy was the exception.

Even Jerry Lewis, a god in france, wasn't as funny after the breakup with Dean Martin.

Stir Crazy AND Silver Streak were both solid. I thought See no Evil, Hear no Evil was very solid as well.

The Toy and Brewster's Millions are both great. He actually turned down Blazing Saddles. That would have been something.

Car Wash was one of the greatest films of its genre.

He was desperate to do it but the studio rejected him

One of two times he was supposed to work with Mel Brooks that fell through.

The other was History Of The World Part I, where he got replaced by Gregory Hines after Pryor’s freebasing incident.

He didn't turn down Blazing Saddles. He cowrote it with Brooks for himself, but could not get the role because of insurance purposes.

Pryor was great, but not traditionally funny. He was more outrageous like the black Lenny Bruce. Once he set himself on fire smoking rock he was more pathetic than anything else.
