Someone tell me what the lure of Star Wars is when 6/9 of the movies suck

This has got to be the most overrated movie series of all time. Almost every movie in the series is arse, yet the movie/tv board won’t shut up about it. What’s so immersive about it? If you aren’t a boomer, what do you legitimately like about it?

Only 3/9 are Star Wars movies

I like Rogue One and Solo but am kind of whatever about the rest. The original and Empire are okay.

Forget the movies. The Clone Wars animated series and Rebels are legit awesome.

Forgot about this one, so 7/10 movies are either average or bad. Yet, it’s like a cult following

It’s because story, effects and overall magic of the originals drew everyone in. The new movies fail to replicate it and now the fan base is aging as more kids understandably don’t get into star wars.

New Hope and Empire are two of the best movies ever made.
The Animated Clone Wars show is a fantastic cartoon. It's everything the prequels should have been. Rebels is very very good as well.
Rogue One and Return of the Jedi are great solid movies with infinite rewatchability.
The Force Awakens, Phantom Menace, and Revenge of the Sith are above average watchable movies.
Solo was an unnecessary stupid mess but it was made well.
Attack of the Clones is an unwatchable boring schlock of nonsense.
TLJ is the cinematic equivalent of the Holocaust of Hollywood movies.
Even with the bad, the universe and lore and world building created in the original trilogy is so great it has spawned decades and generations of fans. It appeals to all ages and it's a timeless classic. It's cultural impact and staying power is something to be admired.

Because the original trilogy was so awesome. It became a real cultural phenomenon...not a forced cultural phenomenon. It didn’t provoke, force a conversation, subvert expectations, etc. It was magical in how it captivated people of all ages in an organic manner with its story, its characters, it’s images, it’s world, and it’s meaning.
It was so good. It takes a helluva lot of shittiness to tear all that down.
But Disney is really giving its all to do so.

Revenge of the Sith was badass and I will standby this for the rest of my existence.

I don't know about the movie as a whole, but Anakin vs. Obi Wan was the GOAT duel among all the movies.

The first half of that movie was more meh prequel action but the second half was awesome.

Its mostly about nostalgia for the first three. There's a huge extended universe with books, video games, and cartoons that fuels everything in between movies.

I'm tired of skywalkers.
There is more interesting shite in that universe. The planets and species of life.
I'm more interested in the struggles of the sand people than snoke, finn or ben. Etc.

Can't you say the same thing about the Terminator films? Four out of the six Terminator films are terrible but that doesn't detract from the greatness of the first two films.

For me personally, the first movie had such an impact that I think I would at least mildly enjoy every movie afterward regardless of how much they do or don't suck.
Still remember clear as day watching the original in a drive-in movie. I never saw previews. My sister told me we were going to see "star wars" I thought I was going to see like barbera fricking streisand battling against Cher in a sing off or some stupid shite like that.
But the whole space theme is/has been so interesting for me that even the shitty movies still have a lot of cool stuff within. One on One lightsaber battles, epic battles, space battles, explosions, plethora of cool creatures, special effects, space ships, etc... Even the biggest pile of crap movie still had some cool pod racing. Tie yourself to a couple spaceship engines with some string... fricking ya.

People grew up with it and loved the OT. There's always hope that they'll be great again. You could ask the same about the MCU. People love those films, which to me are no better than the star wars films.

No. The original three are two incredible films and one very good film.
The prequels added two messes and one decent movie. TFA was a fun, solid movie. Rogue One was very good.
Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones and The Last Jedi aren't at the quality of the others, but there are at least 5-6 good movies and two movies that are all time greats that redefined the genre.
