Oh wait a second I didn’t know that Roland Garros was being talked about being played a week after the US Open. Damn I was misinformed there. Yea of course Rafa would prefer to focus on the French Open rather than the US Open. Damn Bunk where are you getting your information?

ETA: I just watch Tennis Channel Live on the Tennis Channel and read Tigerdroppings to get my tennis news.

RG website says September 20 to October 4. Some players were upset because RG did this without any feedback from them. If they go ahead with it, they should bump it back one more week.

Ok than you man! Of course they need to bump it back more than one week. I can’t believe they expect the players to play the US Open then have only one week to get ready to play clay court tennis in France that is absurd.

Tennis Channel did a quick profile on this kid Jubb who won the NCAA title last year at South Carolina. Pretty much grew up with no parents. Seems like an awesome dude. I hope he makes it in the pros.

So looks like they're going to play Citi Open (Washington) on Aug. 16, then Cincinnati will move to New York and be played within the US Open bubble as a tune-up.

Everything in New York will be without fans.

That will be super weird. At least if Rafa and Nole bail on it, we should get a major champ under 30.

I don't think Nadal will play. I think Djokovic will cave and go to New York, but probably not win. Not having a full team and not being able to keep up routines will frick with the elite guys some mentally, in my opinion.

I think someone mentioned this earlier in this thread of posts, but Thiem seems like a solid value bet to win the US Open at this point.

Damn I was hoping my eventual east coast trip would include some baseball and sightseeing. Probably won’t go now but I’ll wait to see the entry list in DC and how many fans they allow.

If Rafa and Novak bail on the US Open my money, (which I don’t have any), is on the skinny Slav Medvedev or on the Austro-Hungarian Dominic Thiem. I just don’t think the Greek heathen Tsitsipas can win it.

Crack if you’re seriously coming to DC I live in Maryland about 16 miles from DC but I never go there because that town is a madhouse with nowhere to park and the white people in DC are a bunch of stuck up snobs.

Just found out today that Serena Williams is gonna play in the US Open and it’s on schedule to start on time at the end of August. That is great news and I thank the USTA for making it happen.

Can’t believe they would announce 2.5 months ahead of the event that they won’t allow fans.

Just keep out fatties and olds, make everyone sign a waiver, and let it rip.

Agreed. Very stupid.

We might have zero deaths by the time of late August.

Roland Garros will absolutely not be behind closed doors. There is no final decision yet on the number of spectators, which will be decided on with the public authorities, FFT president Bernard Giudicelli. (Reuters)

Why are we behind France in common sense here?

I'm guessing their tennis federation needs the money badly, probably to pay for all of the fancy improvements. But, good for them. I hope cancel culture doesn't cause them to back down. I'm not sure even sure I want to watch a major tournament without spectators.

I mean they just played the event in Belgrade with a full stadium and the French Open is still over 3 months away, so hopefully they don't cave.

Yeah no way Rafa goes to New York. He'll play Madrid and/or Rome to get ready for Roland Garros.

Yea EYC I agree and you can’t blame Nadal one bit either. There is a Grand Slam arms race going on between Fed, Rafa, and Novak so we can expect all three of them to do whatever they have to from here on out to win the Slam race. Hopefully the Frogs will allow fans in the stands at Roland Garros.
