It's amazing how just sitting next to her brings comfort. They're so much like us. This shite sucks. She was our first kid.

I don’t even want to think about the day my chocolate goes

She’s 11 but acts 3. I think she will want to hang on when the time comes because she is scared to miss out on anything

There’s no need to bring color into this.

Our family chocolate lab is 15. She has definitely defied time but she’s starting to slow down. She’s been incontinent for a year now and recently she’s been having trouble hearing.

The day she goes will be a sad one. And I’m sure you’re feeling the same. We don’t deserve the love dogs give us.

Goddamn man I’m so sorry. I love my black lab and he’s 11. As he gets older I often think about how hard it will be to lose him.

It sucks. All I will say is be there with her at the very end. It’s incredibly hard seeing them go but it’s comforting for them. My vet told me a lot of owners can’t bear to watch so they are not in the room when they pass. It literally brought tear to my eye.

I'm so sorry. It is such a gift to have a dog and have that bond with them. They really do bring out the best of us.

Just love on her as long as you are still gifted with her presence by you.

Yea it's sad. Just be there when she goes. Don't leave if they put her down, she needs you there even if it's hard to do.

Mine is on his way out right now. 8 years earlier than it should be because of an infection that is resistant to medication.

He can't stand the vet. And he's still 140lbs skin and bones. So it'll fall on me when the time comes for him to go.

I'm not looking forward to doing it. Been hoping he would give up for the last month. I've had him since he was 4 weeks old and barely 7lbs. I'll be balling my eyes out.

They are so damn loyal. I wish she would understand that it's okay to go.

Thanks to everyone.

Doped one up with painkillers once.

I was hoping she'd be unconscious when we took her. She was more like a stumbling drunk so hopefully she didn't know where she was.

Same thing with ours a month ago
Ace’d her the night before to keep her comfortable
She was given too much IMO but still in dosage range for her weight
She was more alert the next morning when we went but calm
I held her the whole time
