Not at all. However the defense and that scheme are all brand new. This street ball offense is not.

Apparently, people have to vent. Maybe that’s why they invented the interwebs.
But yep, posters can be obnoxious and tiresome with the same shite over and over. Let’s judge Gentry when the season’s over.

Yep it doesn’t matter who’s on the team Gentry is the reason we have always look so inept, lack of play calling, terrible play calling, horrible out of time out plays, terrible rotations, not getting the best out of his players, not putting his players in a position to succeed, and looking like a sad sack that’s drunk on the bench every game.

He is the constant. This dude was always a band aid. Keep AD here with the championship assistant coach of the Warriors. Gentry aint it man. We have known for years now. The Pelicans will NEVER win with him at the helm. NEVER.

Here’s a thought experiment, why isn’t the Carlisle 13-6 Mavericks, or the 17-3 Lakers cribbing our system?
Okay. Because they have two of the best shot creators (and 19/20 MVP candidates) in the entire world leading their offenses. If Gentry had LeBron or Luka and was taking the ball out of their hands, then he should be fired on the spot.

that Gentry, despite 15 years of knowledge about the Suns system and pace and space analytics, is still the only coach that sees the light?
So you dont realize basically the entire league has cribbed principles from the SSOL Suns for their offenses. Cool. Your posts make a lot more sense now.

Implying his roster needs to be catered to to maximize it’s output, that the roster shouldn’t be expected to cater to the system.
Carlisle has a system. You're deluding yourself if you don't believe that. He has run players out of town that didn't fit.
Has he adjusted to allow Luka to do what he does? Obviously. But JJ Barea is still there and running the same shite he's been running since 2011.
The myth of the coach who changes identity on a whim is absurd. You toss it out like it is common when what you are really pointing out are tweaks/adjustments to a system.
Now, the argument that Gentry is poor at adjusting his tactics to better fit his team is a winning one.

challenge, even the Gentry defenders, to go down the list of NBA head coaches and tell me which ones you wouldn't take over Gentry.
To me, it's easier to list the guys I think are demonstrably better. Pop, Spo, Carlisle, Stevens, Doc, Nurse, Kerr, Bud. Im sure there's someone I'm missing.
The rest are all basically the same for me: players and context matter more than just about anything else for them. The grass isn't always greener with NBA coaches. Do we really think Terry Stotts (having a very good run in Portland) would be the answer (Gentry embarrassed him in a playoff series)? Maybe. Maybe he's a better fit, but I wouldn't bet on it.
Whoever the hire next will likely be as good (loaded term) and as frustrating as Gentry. Even some of the guys I think are clearly better drive or have driven their fans nuts with their decisions.
ETA: none of this is to say they need to keep Gentry. Rather, there likely isn't a genius savior coach on the horizon who will fix everything

My point is year Gentry is part of the blame

Gentry is the main person to blame, we have a totally different team from last year and we have the same exact problems as we have had the last 4 years. every time it seems like we are getting over the hump, we fall right back into bad habits... Cant close games, poor defense. Its the same story every year.

The perplexing thing is that he genuinely seems to be respected around the League
And not just because he’s likeable.

Top 10 offense in PPG but average offensive efficiency (15th overall). Pace is high, top 2 or 3 but turnovers put into the bottom 10.
Basically we quickly run up and down court but it's sloppy and we can't hit two pont shots.

Gentry has basically been a failure as a head coach in his entire career save three seasons, two of which where he inherited a team with a two time MVP and loads with talent.
He’s just not a good head coach. Period.
Keeping him does nothing for this season of the future and that is a fact.

Cd, you’re correct once more. Players and a franchise’s situation will likely matter more than the head coach. I do think Pop is a special case. But I’m guessing he ain’t coming here.

The fact that many of you are assuming that I created this thread to be a Gentry apologist or to say that I want to keep him is all proving my point. It's like you guys are so emotional to the point y'all are not comprehending what I'm saying.
I NEVER said I want to keep Gentry, I'm simply saying to place ALL blame on Gentry is simply ignoring other factors that will be here when Gentry gets fired or resign. This is not just a simple fix, which is why if we fired him right now in the middle of the season, barley nothing will change.
But go on, flame away and tell me how much of a dumbass or idiot I am. But just please comprehend my post instead of leading straight to typing with emotions. A person who moves STRICTLY on emotions is not logical, and is people I cannot take seriously.

Actually my voice is kinda soft in person so I feel you, but again it's not about that. Please take your emotions out of it and respond with logic man. Much love.

I like this post. I agree with you, however I do believe it's not on Gentry for the defense I think it's more on Bzdelick. I also have to factor in injury luck, the pyhchological state of players (Lonzo confidence, Favors injuries and his family, JJ finding his way on a young team, Jrue struggling with being the lead dog, Ingram fighting depression,) on top of that we have two rookies. All these players also nice guys with no vocal lead dog to put each other in place for bad defensive reads, slouching shoulders, etc. Gentry free flowing system and his personality contribute to this, but once he is gone I wanna make sure the culture can still change.
