CBS sports has four tigers in the 1st rd for 2020. Might surprise you where they are.

That’s cool. Chaisson is the most surprising to me. I know he is a very athletic OLB edge rush guy, but he has not been big time yet. Solid, but not a cant miss prospect.

Chaisson’s potential is huge
His combine will be through the roof most likely

Having the pieces is more important than production. They can teach him to play how they want.

Chaisson is a meme. He’s not a first round talent right now. His name is only out there due to his 5* HS rating and LSU fans’ hype of him as being their next great pass rusher. He’s a solid OLB with very good measurables but he’s just not there yet and may never be an elite player.
ETA: as a poster said above, it could be a Danielle Hunter type situation but Hunter was more freaky than Chaisson

You think that publications are grading Chaisson as a top draft pick because a bunch of goobers on this fan run website say he has potential?
Chaisson is an animal. Raw, sure, but he's a fricking freak and NFL scouts know that. It has nothing to do with his hype or his star rating coming out of high school. There are people paid very handsomely in the NFL to turn raw talent into production, and they don't take advice from people on a forum.

Chaisson has done nothing to be in that position
His potential is huge but his production is non existent

They also have 49ers picking 32. Which means they won the SB.

Why would that surprise me?

With CEH’s versatility, I could see him being a late first round to early second round pick from a team with multiple picks. He’s an every down back and those are rare to find.

Think of him like Patrick Peterson or Mo Claiborne. Teams specifically scheme around him. Nevertheless, he has a lot of hidden impact as he pushes the pocket and allows other guys to play cleanup.

If he was a 3* prospect he would be getting anywhere near the publicity he gets.
He’s a 5* that has 3* production. His potential is off the charts and that’s what’ll make him a second day selection in the NFL but his technique and instinct just isn’t there.
Chaisson is a hard-worker and a quality character so scouts will love him but he’s not an elite pass rusher and that’s where most of his hype is centered around him being or becoming. Can he set the edge? Sure, all day. Is he strong and fast? Yeah. Does he have great technique? Hell no.
And if you want to see an example of these supposedly untouchable publications and NFL scouts completely whiffing on a player with tons of raw talent look at Taco Charlton. It happens every year where these “scouts” and media-types latch onto a player that hasn’t produced at all on hype alone.
ETA: and it should be noted that Chaisson had only started playing football in his junior year of HS or something crazy like that. His work-ethic and character has brought him to where he is today but he is NOT worthy of a first round pick on production or based on what he is NOW. He’s constantly improving and IMO needs to make major leaps in an understanding of leverage and technique. Any projection that has him being taken in the draft that high is either completely sold on his raw talent getting him there or is just a meme based on hype.

But you have to admit that having three first round picks on this defense that seems to be the eternal weakness of this team is at least encouraging.

Chaisson has done nothing to be in that position
- specializes in rushing QB
- with absolutely great measurables and athletic ability
[could stop there- NFL pays good money for that alone]
- that has established he's slightly above average in coverage this year
- and, also this year, displayed very good run stopping ability, especially setting the edge with great progress year-over-year.
Y'all just looking a sacks. The NFL will love the versatility he's developed that have nothing to do with sacks.

A good question would be, why does LSU get these highly rated freaks on defense but their production doesn't meet the expectations while they are at LSU? It seems like when a guy really makes a name for himself on defense at LSU it's always a guy who had no, low or average expectations and they end up balling out. I'm thinking guys like Tyrann Mathieu and Devin White.

KC18 is incredibly strong at the point of attack and has a very similar first step, speed burst and agility to Head Hunter. KC18 has merely been more used in dropback situations when everyone expects him to be a pure rush specialist.
In terms of overall development, KC18 is more fully developed upon leaving LSU than DH was.

I think this is kind of my point. I don't know what the numbers say but it feels like LSU doesn't get the most out of their talent. Like they're not developing players to their full potential. They seem to go into the NFL and be better especially on the offensive side of the ball but it's happened on the defensive side too. It's the exact opposite with most teams where a guy balls out in college and end up as busts in the NFL.
