If finances are to blame, why is it that poor Americans households have higher birth rates?
When you’re on welfare more babies= more money
When you support yourself and the welfare families, more babies= financial burden, especially when the public’s schools are crap

I honesty think that more people living in bigger cities compared to small towns, rural living has resulted in an exponential rise in cost of child rearing.
I have no data to prove this, but it’s a thought I just had pop into my mind

I think this country is already on that level, but none of us serfs has realized it. Just keep the serfs content with the "new" iPhone 26.

DINK here...if we never have kids, then life would be a breeze. We’ll have kids in the next few years though.

The bad news: We're not having enough babies to replenish the population.
Serious question. How is that a bad thing?
Maybe if it's a 20yr trend, but this seems to be a recent product of women waiting later to have children. That could mean a few years of a boom in the near future.

For one, social security will collapse without exponential population growth paying into it.

I guarantee the birth rate for certain subsets of the population have risen and will continue to rise.
As a childless, selfish, evil, good for nothing millennial:
1) Children are expensive to raise correctly (i.e. decent standard of living, good education, stable social/financial support system). The financial issues facing my generation have been well documented.
2) I'm afraid of screwing it up. The world doesn't need more shitty people. You're not raising a child, you're raising an adult. Damn near anyone can biologically reproduce, but how many of them can mold a child into a valuable, useful, productive citizen?
3) I delayed a ton of gratification by getting a terminal degree, staying out of trouble, and living frugally. It sucked watching all my friends live it up while I studied and worked my arse off. I have yet to realize/enjoy the fruits of my labor and I think it would be irresponsible to have a child when I myself cannot say with 100% certainty that I would be able to place their needs and desires before my own.

Maybe we shouldn't print money to fund these massive public programs, then. You can't have it both ways. I'm sure you understand that.

Social Security is now a tax. The moment the people discover that it has failed is the same moment that Congress will convert it over into a formal tax.

The worst news of all is that leftist pyramid schemes fail faster without population growth to fund them

Recently attended an Occupational Safety conference and the Keynote Speaker ( https://www.gordongraham.com/about.html, Risk Management SME) started his speech with this:
"Can anyone tell me what the greatest RISK America faces today?"
After multiple guesses from the audience... he stated "LOW BIRTHRATE".
He then when into a 10-minutes slideshow presentation that contained many of the points made in this thread.

It inhibits pair bonding and therefore stunts marriage and family development.
This whole topic is odd since I do not want to see the govt get their hands in the bedroom.

Low birthrate is a symptom and not the illness itself. There are socioeconomic problems that are the real RISK.
