They created unique harmonies from their first record on by intentionally avoiding parallel thirds.
They would use unusual time signatures in some compositions and change them seamlessly within the song, such as in Strawberry Fields Forever.
They revolutionized the process of recording and pioneered many techniques still used today.
They basically created pop music.
I never thought they were so great lyrically, but musically they were superior to other rock bands in terms of sophistication and composition, and this can be objectively demonstrated.
And I'm far from their greatest fan or anything, but the truth is the truth.
I honestly think that young people these days lack the musical acumen to appreciate them. That's what happens when you cut music programs out of schools.
