I have a 12gauge and a 9mm already. I wanted to get a rifle and I don't do any hunting. I like the idea of having a 30 round clip in case the SHTF.

Haha! Fair enough. I am not an Army Ranger wanna be and don't read magazine articles about AR-15s. The point is, 30 rounds? For what? Defense form Z Germans?

you could not possibly be more wrong.

right.......

and you think using a rifle that sends bullets through walls killing your family and the neighbors is sooooo much better then a shotgun or a pistol that wont penetrate through walls and doors killing people you dont even know are there.

you and people who agree with you are the perfect example of idiots who shouldnt be allowed to own guns

well them get a full sized s&w m&p 9mm, it comes with a 17 round magazine and wont endanger the whole neighborhood like your AR will. have an extra clip loaded nearby and you have 34 rounds to hit your target. most movie shootouts dont use that much ammo

instead of insulting you like I want, I'm going to ask your logic on why a shotgun is a poor home-defense weapon

Please show me where I said a shotgun is a poor home defense weapon?

A rifle is a better choice.

A shotgun? The 2nd most effective home defense option is a bad choice?

Not what I said, now is it.

I would not advise someone to get a shotgun over a rifle.

Again you really have no idea what the hell you are talking about.

Look up any self defense expert and the overwhelming majority will tell you that a rifle is better.

I'm sorry that you don't understand that nor that you know how to quote.

Are you expecting seal team 6 or just a couple of intruders? i'd go with a cheap pump shotgun and spend a little more on a nice pistol, but if you have a tower and a moat you might look at equipping it with a GAU-19

penetrate walls less than shotguns.

What's the data on .300 blackout and wall penetration? Years ago I saw the tests that showed .223 breaks apart and doesn't penetrate very much, but I seem to remember that it was due to the combination of a very small bullet and very high velocity.
Subsonic .300 being less of both of those things begets my question.

Home invasion first comes to mind. And why not? Tell me the negative of having the extra rounds.
There's a reason all the cops have ARs and 120 rounds of ammo now

FMJ .300 blk subs will go through a bunch. It's heavy and will not shed it's weight. I saw one video that it went through 12 walls including several particle board walls.

and yes, a smaller high velocity round tends to break up and expel it's energy relatively fast meaning it will not go through as many.

These threads are always hilarious, someone should start a thread just linking all the threads on the topic

Many lulz would ensue

Makes sense. I assume someone has developed a round that tries to combat this.

556 vs 300, each has their pros and cons. The $1,000 suppressor plus tax stamp plus ATF headache always kept me from joining the 300 party. I would worry about the ear-piercing sound of 556 in a house if it ever came down to it, but in a do or die situation I guess you have to make some sacrifices.

If I hadn't stopped caring about guns years ago and sold them all to the cartel, I might have got one of those pistol caliber carbines as a compromise.
