We are still feeling the effects of the oil recession which was driving economic growth in 2007 till 2013 etc, so here we are in 2019 and our economy is still to tied to Oil and gas. When there is excess capacity in that industry when price of oil drops, it is Texas that wins in the inevitable consolidation in that industry , not us.

So you realize it was an over-the-top threat, and find it sad, but you make your peace with it because he needed to do what he needed to do?
That a fair representation?

Go read the advocate article on February 12, 2016. Read it and what he said in the entire context , he was correct in what he said about classes not being taught after 30 April.

That surplus is largely due to the change in federal tax laws and how it impacts state income tax
The chicken or the egg.
May of 2018 they raised sales taxes .45 cents. If they did not, we would still have a surplus. If Trump's tax cut wouldn't have happened, we'd have an even bigger surplus.
Edwards was asked during a debate if he'd roll back taxes, he said no. He wants to keep it for the state.
With Edwards the state comes first. That's the problem. He doesn't put people first.

I have given you documented facts from news sites as have others contradicting your claims. JBE isn't conservative and neither are you no matter how many times you say it. Just because he is anti abortion and pro 2A doesn't make a person politically conservative.
Signing into law the Medicaid expansion and raising taxes a few Billion is not anywhere in the realm of conservatism. We have the worst business climate in the Untied States. If he gets elected again say goodbye to about 250K Oil\Gas jobs.

That and threatening 37,000 old folks, and thousands of parents who had students in our universities who were on TOPS.

He was trying to scare the shite out of people. If you don't believe that then no one else can help you. Same thing with sending eviction notices to the Old folks.

No I am not conservative by ur definition of conservative.

No he was explaining the reality of how higher ed works. tenured faculty at LSU do not teach less than 4000 level almost universally , some may teach a few 3000 level classes. Tenured faculty are not going to be cut as that would result in LSU Losing SACs and status as R1.
So who was getting cut, it would be the temporary adjuncts and instructors who are not contractually bound to LSU and are paid per class and per semester. Those folks teach the 1000 to 3000 level courses and they would have all been let go, which means not only what JBe said about spring grades but also Intersession and summer school would not be offered and those classes are also taught largely by temporary instructors and adjuncts along with graduate assistants.
So what he was saying was in fact correct and reflects how LSU runs its classes and who teaches what.

I think we have been through this, the temporary taxes expired and the .45 percent increase was added. la had been doing this temporary tax deal since the 80s.

And I need to check but I think the 4.45 rate was passed for 7 years and then it rolls off.

He raised taxes 750 million a year largely on excise taxes such as smokes, beer and wine, Jindal in 2015 did the same thing, that is went the temporary tax route.

The state sales tax was never over four cents until Edwards push through a temporary penny . That made it five cents. When that expired he made it 4.45 cents.
It expires in seven years 2025.
No governor ever made state sales tax that high.
And what hurts the little guy even more, mayors like the one in BR saw an opportunity to levy a local sales tax of .5 cents to fill the void left by the Edwards tax expiring.

Jindal didn’t raise taxes 750 million dollars in 2015.
But JBE raised taxes and used one time funds to fill the Jindal budget shortfall and more taxes to fund hud 2016/17 budget.

John Bel Edwards is as fake as Bobby Jindal. Eddie might not be any better, but as long as he isn’t a known criminal, why re-elect a known fake?

Per links above. The NOLA article IN" Most New taxes, tax credit adjustments and fees raised over $700 million signed by Jindal.
The Louisiana Opportunity Report that I linked signed done by a bipartisan commision, including PRofessor James Richardson, Chair of the Public Policy Institute at the LSU School of Business, Jay Dardenne, Republican former LT Governor, Sean Reilly CEO for Lamar, from the Business community, etc states on page 29 tax changes in 2015 brought in $ estimated $750 Million (Jindal) and the increase in the 1 cent sales tax signed by JBE brought in an estimated $1.5 billion for 2017 and 2018, which equates to $750 million year.
So, Jindal in 2015 and JBE in 2016 both signed temporary tax bills to fund the government to the tune of an additional $750 million a year.

ragin: Come on, To accuse someone as a criminal in this country is un American. Has JBE ever been charged with a crime. Neither has Jindal. I may not like Jindal, but I would never accuse him of being a criminal. I just think he used his position as Governor to further is national political ambitions. JBE is not perfect. If Governor Foster was running, he would have my vote. Rispone to me, or maybe more is operatives really are saying things that have no bearing on state politics, using the Trump platform. My concern with him is he is to tied to Jindal, and in fact, may govern just like Jindal, who I have absolutely no use for.
