Hard Rock Implosion - 9 weeks

What's the over/under? Looks like mid-April 2020 is the date thrown down.
quote:
Engineers have determined that implosion is the safest way to dispose of the dangling carcass of the high-end hotel that pancaked on the morning of Oct. 12
quote:
Fire Superintendent Tim McConnell told media the building should be imploded in nine weeks, with recovery of the bodies of two still-missing workers and further investigation to follow. A three-month cleanup will also take place after the planned implosion.
quote:
The only factor that could move the demolition past the nine weeks is the College Football Playoffs and New Year's Eve events, McConnell said.
"We will not let it interfere with CFP," McConnell said.

So now those waiting for the bodies of their loved ones have to wait because a football game months away can not be interfered with?
Holy shite there are some fricked up priorities here and I would be screaming in every mic available were I them.

Impossible

No way he’s wrong

Push back too far and they’ll run into Mardi Gras.
I agree with Mid April.

Good God that man is retarded.

Have they even recovered the remaining bodies from the accident yet?

There's little beyond bones left at this point I'd guess.
Then they'll spend countless dollars to find those bone sin the debris after the building is down. What a waste.

Then Kristin Palmer goes on to say something like once the site is cleared, no fence will be put up and they may turn it into a park.

Can’t risk other peoples lives for recovery. The bodies will be recovered after implosion. The clean up will take a long time because of the respect to recover bodies. It’s a dang shame but I’m sure the families agree. They can go after the responsible parties in criminal and civil court. Not speaking for them but I’m sure they don’t want anyone else to die.

I hope we get non-stop Latoya in front of the cameras before and after.

I didn't know if they had gotten the remains out or not. I know at one point it was still a recovery process.

Eric Asher posted this Friday:

The indecisive & half arse leadership extends past the New MSY. It has been weeks since the Hard Rock Hotel collapse. Tropical events are now giving way to an Artic Blast and the pancaked floors are untouched, a crane still hangs over Canal Street and the remains of 2 construction workers are unreachable. Businesses are closed Canal St is closed. The City has control of the site but yet nothing is happening since the so-called successful demolition blast that sent a crane impaled into Rampart Street & the other crane teetering over Canal Street. Where is the sense of urgency to demolish this unsafe structure? With all due respect to the Dead. Don't tell me it is out of respect for the remains of the 2 dead construction workers. The so called leaders in this city knew within 48 hours there was no way to safely recover those bodies without risk of further loss of life & property. This building should have been demolished weeks ago. I can promise you. It is now the most photographed structure in New Orleans eclipsing Jackson square and the St. Louis Cathedral. I see tourist every Thursday when I park a couple of blocks away for my weekly remote at Oceana Grill snapping pictures in disbelief that it is still standing. We are on the cusp of the city's busiest tourist season. Thanksgiving, New Orleans Bowl, Christmas New Year's Eve, College Football Championship, Saints playoffs and Mardi Gras. The Mayor claims building will be demolished before the end of the year. How about right now before Thanksgiving before the onslaught of tourist to our City. How about right now before another tragedy happens and the building shifts and more damage is possible to historic buildings in the area. How about quit embarrassing us with your indecisiveness and feet dragging and get rid of this dangerous situation. When it comes to blight in this town. We move at a snail's pace to eradicated it. It is bad enough we've had to stare at the shell of the burned-out building on Canal Street for the last few years. Let's not make the same mistake with this dangerous building the Hard Rock Hotel must come down now!

I bet that if they did rush to demolish the remaining building this guy would be the first to crush the leadership when something went wrong with that. Got to love armchair critics that can always be right.

All the old building around the demo site will also crumble on top of gas lines.

I can't believe they have not at least gotten rid of the crane hanging over the building. At the time they said it would be cut and another crane would take it down in pieces. How long does this need to just sit there?

Latoya thinks she’s getting repaid a shite ton of money for keeping her guys out there. Someone should tell her about how judgments don’t always get paid. Someone from inside her own office.
ETA...I’d bet she’ll put another tax increase on the ballot to pay for her office’s resiliency in the clean up.

100% guarantee nobody is ponying up the money to continue demo.
Hard Rock was kind enough to front Kailas for the crane implosions.
Beyond that, no one is paying a penny right now.

Isn’t the city on the hook for that? They are the ones that took over control of the site and in fact said the building would be demolished
