NFL has never seen a draft prospect rise as fast as Burrow

Great article about Burrow’s draft stock.
The Modern NFL Has Never Seen a Draft Prospect Rise Like Joe Burrow
The Modern NFL Has Never Seen a Draft Prospect Rise Like Joe Burrow
quote:
Following a forgettable junior season in 2018, the LSU quarterback was considered to be at best a fifth-round pick
quote:
If the prognosticators wind up being correct and Burrow does manage to climb into the top 10 of next year’s draft, it would be an unprecedented rise.
quote:
Interested GMs will get as many eyes on him as possible; if a typical high-level prospect would warrant three or four written reports for that team, Burrow might require seven or eight. The goal, as one former GM told me, is to conduct a pathology on the player’s entire career to find where the original evaluation might have gone wrong.
quote:
Based on the information I gleaned from conversations, scouts are putting Burrow through that wringer once again. The book on him right now is that his arm is still just adequate, but his pocket mobility and knack for playmaking under pressure are vastly improved from last season. During his first year in Brady’s expertly tailored system, Burrow’s processing and decision-making have also taken significant steps forward.
quote:
To this point, Burrow has ticked off nearly every box that teams look for in a quarterback. And if he continues that run against the Tide, this wave of Burrow Mania could become a full-blown tsunami.
quote:
As much as his own improvement, Burrow’s potential leap up this year’s draft will be about what teams are willing to do for a quarterback. And if he ends up a top-10 pick, it’ll be unlike any ascension the league has seen in years.

dumb article. JR's stock rose bc of one bowl game and a dumb NFL owner.

My only issue with the article. If anyone watched us ALL season last year, they would know he got significantly better over the 2nd half of the season. It's not like he went from crap to great.

Wasn’t Kyler Murray not expected to be drafted last year, then goes #1 overall??

I honestly think burrow was this guy all along, he just was in a horrible system
You could see him exhale once this system was put in.
He is just in his element and it's a glorious thing to watch.
Always said that once coach o got burrow to commit the momentum changed and it hasn't stopped since

That’s just not accurate at all. Sports Illustrsted had a scout lost his top 5 draft prospects back in the middle of the 2006 season and Jamarcus was #1.

Burrow didn’t even have an offseason to get settled in last year. And it was his first year as a starter. When you put it all together (with the continued development of the receivers) it makes more sense than they are portraying.

Honestly, this is going to work against him during Draft season. People will remember other "one season wonders" who flamed out in the pros (Akili Smith? Ryan Leaf?) and react accordingly.
As long as Joe falls to the Saints at 32, it's all good to me.

Just last year you had the likes of a midget in Murray, Daniel Jones

This. Even early on you could see that Joe had the ability to read defenses very well and make good decisions. He struggled because of the system he was in.

im not one to try an force LSU players into a Saints uniform for the hell of it. But i legit hope Burrow sticks around 15-20 to give NO an opportunity if they want to take it
it really seems like a good fit
most of the organizations that will wind up in the top 5 this year will be complete shite.
the way QBs are drafted, i definitely dont think he'll be there at 28-32

Would be glorious to see that rise!

Kyler Murray was a backup the previous season, so not comparable.

I thought it was a great article. Clearly Burrow was underestimated by evaluators which sheds light on the fact that their evaluation methodology is flawed. I found it interesting that although Burrow’s stock has taken off, they’re more interested in trying to figure out how they underestimated him. Perhaps they’re too full of themselves in the first place and simply don’t know how to do their jobs.

After tomorrow they will never see one drop so fast if LSU lose.

People think this, though. People compared him to Etling all off-season, when it was VERY obvious he was head and shoulders above Danny Etling.
