Pros and Cons: Zachary & Prairieville

Looking to move sometime next year. The 2 are at our top of the list.
So what’s what out there? (Besides the schools)
Was leaning strong towards Burnside, but decided to come back up a bit.

Where do you work? Those can be very different commutes.

Zachary will be a much better/smoother commute to the downtown area

I'd lean Zachary or Central then. That commute through the split would suck from Prairieville

Zachary has good schools, as mentioned, plus a good community. It is also a less stressful drive to and from BR by going north as opposed to east, south, or across the river.
The down side is that some retail (Sams / Costco, etc) isn’t out in that direction thanks to the shutdown of Sam’s at Cortana so you may have to plan ahead unless you want to do your shopping at Walmart or Rouse’s.

Prairieville is basically Baton Rouge now. If it were up to me, I’d choose Zachary/Central

I know from Zachary or Central you can avoid I-10 and I-12 altogether to drive downtown and 110 traffic isn't usually too bad.

Zachary to downtown is probably 20-25 minutes unless the curve at downtown is shut down due to a wreck.

I spent a lot of time in Zachary when I was a kid. I had some family that lived out there.
IMO, it still has that “small town community” vibe, but has all the necessities.

I grew up in Central but knew a lot of people from Zachary. They are both still nice communities

When they finish the I-10 expansion, it's going to make getting to Baton Rouge from Prairieville much easier but you'll still have to deal with not just the annoyance of the 12-110 corridor now, but the utter shitshow it's going to be when they start widening it (which will take a few years to complete).
Zachary is your better bet. 110 North after work and 110 South before work (at least to downtown) are cakewalks compared to going to/from Prairieville. Zachary has a good community, good schools and is set to really explode as populations working in Baton Rouge but living in Prairieville and Denham Springs begin to reach a point where even the expanded interstates aren't enough to handle the daily commute traffic (we already see this daily on 12).

If you move to Prairieville, kiss your family goodbye. You'll be in traffic for the rest of your days. Oh and your yard will smell like shite because the whole place is one big ditch.

In what way?

Zachary.
Prairieville traffic is fubared and not getting better anytime soon.

I can't even imagine how I would feel if these were on my list, let alone at the top.

What’s making the move? Wrong side of the St George demarcation line?
I’d pick Zachary. It has what you need, is still growing and yes does have small town vibe. And you are still in EBR Parish.

The problem with Zachary is its location. Anytime you go to BR you have to go through the ghetto on I-110.

It's the ghetto on 61 that you have to go through on surface streets. 110 is pretty much all raised interstate and wouldn't be a concern to me.
