Shoulder issue

This seems as good a place to ask this as any...
What's up with my shoulder? It hurts like the dickens.
I can't raise my left arm past should height when I try to raise it straight out to the side. But when i raise it going forwards, it hurts, but I can raise it all the way. Also, when trying to do a windmill motion from front to back, I can't go past shoulder height. It just won't go any further. Right side is all fine. This started last night after... and don't laugh... my wife threw a pair of socks down the hall for me to put in the laundry basket and I reached up to catch them. Felt a sharp pain about midway between my shoulder and my elbow and now there's a knot there. What the heck did I do?
This DOES seem to give my youngest something to do... He walked up this morning, said hey dad, can you do this?... and started doing windmills and then died laughing. Long story short, he can't roll his tongue and my other two (as well as me) like to ask him if he can do this *rolls tongue*. Makes him mad. Wife can't do it either. We don't tease her, though.

Well, yeah, but it just happened last night. I'm just curious. I'll call the guy I went to a couple years back for my knee, but in the meantime, was just looking for opinions.

Your age?
The knot is likely you tore your proximal biceps. Biceps has 2 tendons around shoulder. 1 tendon goes into your shoulder attaches at socket. The other attaches at coracoid (bone below collarbone)

Pretty much what I figured. But.. from catching a pair of fricking socks? I've GOT to come up with something better than that.

The sudden movement could have 'snapped' what was left of it.
Before my first surgery my doctor (not the orthopedic) said that I had to have felt a 'pop' with my injury. Kept telling him I didn't. Anyway after my mri I was sent to my orthopedic who said the same. So i had my surgery and did my PT.
When my second surgery happened I had the same argument with both doctors. My orthopedic had me do my PT at his clinic and with his head PT. She put me on a table and damn near had me crying with her moving and digging into my shoulder.
She then said 'ah there it is'.... basically my stabilizer muscles were so 'strong and overdeveloped' due to me compensating for the pain that I never felt a pop and mine was a slow, painful and overall bad tear (all tears are bad but instead of small tear I almost shredded the entire thing).
Sorry for the novel but after my third surgery I had telling my PT (a guy) that I hurt myself by trying to have hardcore sex with a fat girl.

I wonder how that would go over with my wife?

Mine pops when I rotate it backwards and a lot during shoulder day. It’s from sleeping on that side with my arm up. I do it from time to time because it’s comfortable but when I stop sleeping that way the issue goes away.

My husband and I were boating and approaching dock and he grabbed the post at the dock to tie up and tore his rotator cuff. He had lots of pain and couldn’t drive home and unable to pick up his arm. Had nerve block and surgery 3 months later. Slept in recliner until he was able to sleep in bed upright with lots of pillows. Arm feels fine. Get good orthopedic surgeon.

I saw Hatzis this week for mine. Got a painless injection. Much better now.

I hope they explained it better to him than me. I didn't realize that i wouldn't be able to feel not only my entire arm but most of my face. Freaked me out....

Google Thoracic Outlet Syndrome
Crazy pains I had in my shoulder and rotator cuff area and finally got it diagnosed by a vascular surgeon .
