Taking my wife (who has never been) to NOLA for a long weekend in the next month. Looking for great restaurant recommendations that are casual and not overpriced. Anything creole/cajun involving seafood and other choices such as turtle, gator etc. would be good as well.
TIA
TIA

You need to be more specific. What's your price range for lunch or dinner. What's "not overpriced" to one person can be crazy expensive to another.

I think French is safer than creole/Cajun in the city, and there are some gems that stretch between the two (French and southern).
Cafe Amalie, Cafe Degas, Boucherie, N7, LPG, Patois, Meauxbar...

Define casual, define overpriced.
Personally, I would recommend some better dining places than what your version of casual might be if you are taking your wife to NOLA for the first time.
This is going to come across snarky, and it is not intended to, but if those are your parameters you are going to get a lot of super shitty options. Places that usually style themselves that way are MOSTLY tourist traps.
Probably the best place that would have that sort of thing is Cochon.
Some recommendations, all that being said:
Cochon
Peche
Bevi Seafood (MidCity location on Carrollton)
Coop's Place (touristy and in the FQ but on the better end of the spectrum)
Do Commander's Palace for Lunch one day. Yes, it is fine dining and you can't wear shorts or tshirts...but it is super cheap at lunch for what you get, and 25 cent martinis. It is a good experience. If you want one nice place and don't want price and formality of dinner, do this.

Fun Bunch has good suggestions.
If you're going to be there on a weekday for lunch or dinner, you might enjoy grabbing some crawfish bisque and/or etouffee at Bon Ton.
I would suggest including at least one old school restaurant. A long lunch at Galatoire's can be a lot of fun and a good sampling of some Old New Orleans cuisine, including lots of different seafood options.
Peche should fit into your selection nicely.
Remember that New Orleans is not "Cajun", so there aren't a lot of those types of places and some are not very good. You might look at K-Paul's for that influence.

forget about that tourist-baiting shite...nothing about the world-class cuisine (except turtle soup) in new orleans is reptile-based.
i'll let others recommend places to go. generally speaking, if you see alligator or turtle on the menu, chances are you picked the wrong restaurant

Alligator is for eating blackened at the Chimes in BR. Most of the NOLA places don’t do it that well. Turtle soup at Commanders is fantastic, though.

If you're eating seafood in New Orleans, you're at the top of the dining chain.
Since no one else has mentioned it specifically, I would encourage you to try grilled oysters somewhere while there.

I usually take first-timers to places like Cochon, Peche, La Petite Grocery, or Galatoire's.

All good suggestions but I think having to wear a coat at Galatoire would be a step too far for him.

Probably 99% chance that turtle soup you are getting is actually made with veal breast.

This is the majority of places if you aren't drinking heavily

Will cut out a lot of the nicer places but still can go to most places. Might be too cool for a polo.
Cochon
Butcher(Lunch)
Peche
Bevi (Lunch)
Parkway Bakery (Lunch)
Marjie's Grill (for something...different)
Bacchanal
Palm & Pine
Gabrielle (I think this would be a good place for you...take an Uber)
Stick to that list and you'll have a damn fine time

Are we talking nice jeans or no?
