So, looks like I am getting a cadaver graft for the ACL. MCL can be sewn and repaired. Doctor says he can clean up the damage to the LCL.

My knee went sideways like Nick Chubb's went backwards. You know instantly that you have seriously injured yourself.

Injury happened a month ago. They had to "prehab" my knee just to get it ready for the surgery.

Anyone have this type of surgery before? Any does and don'ts they don't mention at the hospital?

Fitting name now that you got dead body parts inside. UnLike the Vols...you are beaten and battered now, but you will recover soon.

You shouldn't have changed the play on the goal line.

Went through nearly the same thing about 10 years ago.
I’m sure the surgical procedures have advanced since my time. They took part of my hamstring to replace the ACL and worked through three different angles in my right knee.
Long rehab process. Learning to walk again was interesting but definitely helped put things in some perspective.

Best of luck, stay positive.

Yep but they used my the center of my patella for the graft.

A couple of things and the 1st one is the hardest; learn the difference between sore and pain...once you do that, rehab is MUCH easier.

Ask what you CAN'T do rehab wise, not what you can do.

Ice is your friend

Good luck

I've had both ACLs redone... both with cadaver grafts.

The first time was in 2004 and was primarily the ACL with some minor cleaning up of the meniscus. The next day was fricking miserable, and yeah, PT sucks.

The second time in 2018 was the ACL, but they also had to do some major meniscus reconstruction. They actually didn't know until they got into the knee that the ACL was fully torn (it was suspected) because the meniscus was out of place and obscuring the MRI.

With the meniscus damage, I had to go 7 weeks with no weight on the knee, which made it harder to rehab the ACL, but I'll say that the improvement in technique between 2004 and 2018 is pretty significant. Much less scar tissue, less pain the following days, and as a whole an easier rehab once I really got into it.

Both times I went a while before having surgery so the swelling would all go down. That's normal for someone that isn't a pro athlete looking to get back ASAP.

One tip I definitely have is, if they give you the nerve blocker, have some help getting into the house and into bed. It's awkward as frick to not be able to feel one leg, and I ended up busting my arse in the garage and banging up my arm.

Start bending it as soon as you can, and bend it as much as you can tolerate the pain. Don't let it sit stiff and heal that way.

June of '18, repaired a completely torn ACL. was an odd injury because it never did swell. did not get an MRI for about 2 months. knee would randomly give out on me.

pain after surgery was really not bad. Just sore for a while. when sitting around all day, sleeping all night became an issue for a short while.

my only real problem was trying to rush through the rehab. i always felt like i could do more, but they always reeled me back in to stick to the process of rehab. I will say that you need to finish the rehab. When the PT let me go, I stopped rehab/exercise. Bad move on my part. Take the time to re-build those muscles as well.

Nearly had the exact same injury as you. Playing soccer and had a guy fall on my leg and messed me my knee up pretty badly.

Completely torn ACL, grade two tears on LCL and MCL, and torn meniscus. Used my patella tendon to replace ACL and cut out the damaged part of my meniscus. LCL and MCL weren’t operated on, so used rehab to get those back to normal.

Best advice I can give you, is treat rehab seriously and don’t slack on it. It’s painful at first but it’s worth it. Ice it as much as you can. Hope you have a ton of movies, shows, or sports to watch while you’re inactive.

Had basically the same surgery in high school, except I had meniscus instead of LCL. Overall it wasn't that bad, other than normal pain to be expected. I rehabbed hard and was back to 100% within 4 and 1/2 months. But I also didn't do anything that my PT told me not to do. However, people rehab differently and it's very important to listen to what your body is telling you and do what your PT says to do while both in therapy and at home. Your rehab will depend on what you're trying to get back into doing. Go into the therapy with a positive mindset, know that you're going to endure some pain and try to lean into it, if you can. If you're pain is to much, don't push it. Understand it is a process and takes time to heal and get back to normal and you should be fine
