David Pollack has us as the #1 team in the country, "And it's not even close."

Galloway has us at #2. Both giving Alabama the edge in a home game for them, which is understandable. I feel like Pollack has been all over the place, but cool to see him put us at #1 atm. SIAP

Kind of surprised because he usually doesn't care for LSU too much.
I'm glad we are getting the respect, but I hope the team doesn't let it get to their heads. Things can change very easily in the next month if this team lets up any. Thankfully, with the leaders on this team, I don't see that really being a problem. With guys like Burrow and Cush, I think they stay hungry.

We need a 6-8 team playoff bottom line. This is getting out of control.

Pollack, Kirby, Galloway, and Palmer are all discussing this year. Between LSU, Alabama, OSU, OU, Clemson, and Wisky, these teams have all been legit. The good thing is, LSU plays Bama, and OSU plays Wisky. It just kinda sucks that we have to play a playoff game in the regular season. This is all fixed with a 8 team playoff.

Great point. I mean I guess if you HAD to stick to 4 teams in the playoffs, you'd have to consider their SOS. I will say tOSU has looked strong but it's easy to look like that when you're playing nobodies or teams that aren't as strong as they typically are (e.g. Michigan State) Nebraska was ranked, but barely.
It's the same thing with Alabama, beat up on a bunch of smaller schools or teams that aren't that great (Arkansas, Tennessee, Ole Miss). But it doesn't help your strength of schedule.
Anyway, I'm ready to watch the Tigers tomorrow. Worry about all this other 'what if' stuff later.

Playoff games are played on a neutral site. But we have to go to Tuscaloosa to play Bama to decide the playoff. Just because it's their year to host. It just doesn't make sense IMO.

Yes they are.

No it doesn't. I completely agree.
I think the first playoff rankings come out the first weekend in November. We'll see where we are.

quote:No doubt. I thought it should have been 8 from the beginning. Some will say it'll work itself out during the season, but even some of the best college football teams have 1 loss at the end of the year. 4 teams only is ridiculous, especially considering if all P5 conferences had an undefeated champion, you couldn't even put them all in. That's unlikely, but it very well could happen to where we have all p5 conferences with champions that are undefeated or with 1 loss. Then, what do you do? Sure, as it sits now, with the pac12 being so weak, you could keep them out, but if their champ is undefeated why should they be kept out? I think 8 is the perfect number for major college football playoffs.

That would take 3 playoff game wins to win a national championship. To make that happen conferences would likely have to drop their championship game. It would be a pain in the arse to reformat the conference scheduling wise and it would be a major loss of money in advertising dollars for the SEC based on the ratings they bring in airing the championship game. There's a lot more to think about than just switching it to 8 teams.

I respect his ability to set his bias aside.

Beating Alabama in their house will be bigger than beating them at home. Welcome this opportunity. Watch their fans wilt.

They could just drop 1 of the 3-4 cupcake games each P5 team plays each year. No one wants to watch LSU beat up on Whatever directional state U anyways.

A lot of people on here act like pollack and the rest of the gameday crew hate LSU because they criticize them. Have any of you thought that in past years LSU just didn’t show them enough to be considered the best team in the country? Now LSU is actually showing that and this is the respect they have earned. The entire world isn’t against LSU.

I would rather see 16 team playoff.
1. Get rid of Rent a Wins
2. Shorten regular season, conference and Division opponents only.
3. No play off in conference
4. Include more conferences in playoof
5. Change Bowls to playoffs, making them relevant again
6. Start bowls earlier to make all this work out
my 2 cents

Think about it in terms of the NFL playoffs. Do you think the teams with 4 best records always win the Superbowl? A lot of times, yes. But, not always. It is very possible that a team could play the #1 team during the season, lose, and still realistically be the second best team, and miss the playoffs. College football is much more subjective than the NFL, too. Not all schedules are equal. In fact, there are much bigger discrepancies in college schedules, than in NFL. Simply look at Clemson. Texas A&M may actually be their toughest game. Eight team playoff would eliminate that.

I like the idea of a six team. Top two seeds get a “bye”. Most years, 6 teams covers everyone that has a legitimate shot. Honestly, 4 covers most years. But 6 gives you options to not penalize the top teams for playing each other (like LSU/Bama or Wisky/Ohio St) assuming that’s their only loss.
What I really hope is this encourages teams to play good OOC games. Something bothers me about Clemson and the joke of that conference. That doesn’t mean they aren’t a quality team, but a quality team that doesn’t get tested all year has a definite advantage over a team like us in getting to the playoff healthy and ready.
