It seems like the deterrence argument might carry some merit.
Definitely deters repeat offending.

What’s defined as “extreme”?
Any person who commits violence, actual real physical violence, repeatedly and/or heinously (as in torture, child, sexual+physviolence), terrorism (including social and political terrorist acts), exclusions for plowing into crowds gathered in the streets illegally.

Jesus wasn’t against the death penalty. His execution was unjust but He knew it was also necessary for salvation of humanity.

For it. Some people cannot be rehabilitated into society, and society should not be expected to carry the burden of sustaining their existence for their natural lives.
For those squeamish about the state taking lives, I would accept a modern form of "exile" where the individual is stripped of citizenship, barred for life from entering the United States or reacquiring citizenship, and expelled to another country, if it could be arranged. But expecting hard-working people to pay taxes to sustain these worthless, irredeemable wretches for the rest of their lives is ludicrous.
For those concerned about costs, bullets and rope cost a lot less than sustaining a life for decades. That the courts have barred cost-effective means of execution for no good reason is no reason to accept the notion that "execution costs more than life imprisonment" as anything beyond a legal fiction.

~

All the above said, unless the legal regime needlessly ballooning the costs of executing people is not replaced with a more sane alternative, I must begrudgingly acknowledge that life imprisonment is superior to execution given how the system stands right now. So while I am for it on paper, until things change life imprisonment is the less odious option.

Whatever you say, man. I was talking about one of the other history books.

Ftr, Jesus is great. Jesus's teachings were great, and the only referece to the subject that I have is: 'though shall not kill'.

You've got anything referencing him being for the death penalty?

Public execution would definitely have a deterrent effect on capital crime.

For a normal person it would. For ppl intent on murdering someone it probably would not. Those ppl don’t care.

You are right. And they would not be repeat offenders.

This question always tears me up........

I'm "for" in the case of a slam dunk case where there is absolutely zero doubt, and it should be done within a month or two of sentencing, and frick all the stupid appeals process' that allows SCUM to breathe oxygen for 20 to 25+ years......

I'm "against" in the case that even if convicted, there is ANY modicum of doubt.......

This question is always a hard one for me. I'm sorry I don't have a better answer.

Why in the frick would I claim to not trust the government, accuse the government of having a deep state, accuse the government of playing politics with the criminals courts then turn around and say " sure you are trustworthy enough to decide someone should die for a crime???"

I don't trust the government to not frame people it make up bullshite. I believe only about 50% of police forces are good people. And frankly we are seeing a shite ton of cases overturned due to new evidence. No way in hell I trust the government to enforce this.

Now principles dictate that I should and I would if the government was trustworthy, but they aren't.

By far the best reason to oppose the death penalty IMO. Should have addressed this line of thought in my earlier post.
Completely agree with your summary at the end. If we're assuming the government actors are fundamentally good people honestly trying to do a good job then I support it all the way. Given the government we have, no way.

Against unless there is a full public confession after sentencing. I don't trust the government for much of anything and they have damn sure executed innocent people. Take it away completely IMO considering how polarizing and extreme politics has become over the last 20 years.

Matthew 15:1-9 is a start.

The entire Bible is from God. Jesus is God. Jesus didn’t contradict the word of God but supported it.

The Apostle Paul also supported it, saying the government was God’s servant to execute justice by wielding the sword. The words Paul wrote carry the same weight as Jesus’ because Paul’s epistles are the inspired word of God.
