SIAP - the draft was the past two days. This article was posted earlier this morning. Let me know if I missed anyone.

SportingNews

Toby Weathersby, T (DC Defenders)
Sam Montgomery, DE (DC Defenders)
Terrence Alexander, CB (New York Guardians)
Ronald Martin, S (Dallas Renegades)
Anthony Johnson, DT (Los Angeles Wildcats)
Colin Jeter, TE (Seattle Dragons)
Garrett Brumfield, OC (New York Guardians)

Mettenberger was in the draft but I don't think he was one of the first 8 QBs "assigned" to a team. Trying to figure out if he ended up on a team.

ETA: Looks like also in the draft pool but maybe not drafted?

Michael Ford
Donnie Alexander
Cole Tracy
Brad Wing

No offense, but if Terrance Alexander is the best quality CB out there, that's going to be some bad football.
Only way this works is if you are able to take some players from college away from NFL draft like they did the first time with Flutie and Walker, etc.

Idk the AAF was decent football. It wasn’t NFL level but it was at or slightly higher than College. That league just ran out of money and didn’t get a chance to finish the season which you don’t have to worry about with McMahon backing the XFL.

right he finished his lone season last time also. i sure hop[e it works this time. we need another USFl spring ball league again badly. NFL has turned into a shitshow with gargabe rules and officiating.

Vince is what 16 or 17 years removed from last XFL season? he has had almost 2 decades to get it right this time. I am sure he is prepared. gonna be tough regardless. hope it works out. This is his last shot and he knows it. I personally would not have waited this long for a do over. HE has to sell this to fans and steal players from college like USFL did. a shite ton of NFLers played in the USFL.

XFL will have to steal players from college.

they will not make players stay in school 3 years. they will start grabbing players after 1 or 2 years in college. get ready

Would hate to see this happen, but I think, like basketball, we are heading in that direction:

No paying players at the collegiate level
However, high school players may enter the XFL (or similar developmental league) the G-League (or similar developmental league) like they do in Baseball.

They may then get drafted by the NFL years later.

High school players then can either (a) go to college or (b) make some money

I hate that system, but I think that is where we are headed.

Y’all’s faith in Vince is pretty funny. He’s never done anything successful outside of Wrestling, and even WWE is a shitshow these days.

They’re going to have to pay more than 55k and will also have to prove to be viable, which it almost certainly won’t.

I doubt XFL teams have much of a scouting department. Teams probably draft players based almost exclusively on their résumé.

They focus on players from colleges that produce NFL talent, guys that made NFL training camp rosters, and ex-AAF players.

Terrance Alexander checks off a couple of those boxes. He got significant playing time at both Stanford and LSU, and was invited to an NFL training camp. He might have one of the better résumés in the draft.

And how many of Vince’s skills he used to build WWE are transferable to the XFL? Certainly some are, he’s a fantastic marketer, but 2001 XFL did more to differentiate themselves from the NFL plus had NBC behind it at a time with much fewer entertainment options and it still failed for the same reasons every upstart league since the AFL has failed.

2019 XFL feels generic by comparison, what exactly is going to be different this time? And that’s all without even mentioning that WWE has existed almost on inertia for the last 15 or so years, making it fair to question of whether or not he still has the same touch he had in the 80’s and 90’s. Just look at the cities, stadiums, mascots for this league. Does that really inspire confidence?
