don't worry, it won't be missed in Tuscaloosa.

Auburn has been taking advantage of this for years. I remember a few years back they scored a TD and their left guard was further downfield than our free safety who was in coverage was

They don't. OL blocks are supposed to be w/in 3yds of the LOS. As evidenced on our first TD vs UF, the 3yd rule is not really well enforced.

I doubt that refs pay attention if the block begins within 1 yard of line of scrimmage and block is held while pushing defender beyond the 3 yard mark. If on a LB setting back and moving laterally big difference.

It used to be that a blocker if maintained their block could push downfield as far as they wanted. That is not the easiest thing to do for any blocker.

This is cool as hell to see the differences. You can see as #2 for Florida reacts and starts moving toward LOS, the decision is made to throw the ball. Then on the run play, #2 starts back-pedaling as the hand-off is made on.

They just run block when it's RPO. Watch the plays. Our linemen are sometimes 3 yards downfield when Burrow throws.

RPO the o line run blocks on every play. Have to avoid ineligible receiver down field. We have had a couple of those not called. No doubt they will call it in Tuscaloosa. Although they run RPO as well. Whatever.

Great. $100 says they call us for it at least three times vs Bama. I can see it already.

What's distance on an illegal man downfield?

Seems like they always run block outward instead of too far up field.

I would bet a lot of money that the refs, for some odd reason, decide to start calling this against us during the Bama game.

um, it ain't just lsu. it's pretty much everybody. people are complaining about the loophole in the scheme. apparently, the nfl is tighter on the rule.

If Burrow passes, he has to get it out quick to avoid the OL from getting too far downfield while run blocking.

and that is the key right there. offenses are pushing the envelope and challenging the officials to call it. until they do, it will be business as usual and the defense can pound sand. if they do start to call it, the qb will have to adjust and get the pass off quicker

BTW, Wyatt's 4 to 5yds down field comment is BS. Look at the LSU lineman's location at the point of Burrow's release. No way in hell he's "Five Yards" downfield.

Execution in this offense is very high level.

So what advantage does the offense get by having linemen downfield?

this is exactly what leach was saying. "balanced" is stupid. you take what the defense gives. if they are giving up the pass, you take the pass until they stop it. trying to force a balanced offense is nonsense

On the TD pass to Chase against Florida, Lewis was close to the distance down field that could draw a flag.
