Mississippi River is already rising.

Not good that it’s already close to 30 ft in Vicksburg in mid October.

Isn’t flood stage at Vicksburg about 42’?

Yes. I think it’s actually 43 ft. The problem is before the frequent flooding the Mississippi river would usually be between 10 to 15 feet at Vicksburg this time of year. 30 ft for mid October is not a good sign going into winter and spring.

The Midwest and PNW just had record snow levels for early October followed by high temperatures. Naturally, this creates late season runoff that will pass. Look for the levels to lower again before winter. Nothing to see here.

When it’s 35-40 in January, then worry. That’s what happened this past year

I agree with you however it's also supposed to start falling next week, so long as that stays accurate we should be all good. Having a camp in Venice and another on the river near Port Gibson I am right where with your concern hopefully it passes.

The upper Mississippi (Wisconsin) is super high. A friend who has lived there his entire life told me it was only the second time he ever remembers water like this in the fall.

Thankfully the upper Mississippi only plays a small role in our river stage here it's more the Ohio and rivers further south that move the needle the most. Hopefully this will hold true and the river will fall soon

Projected to be at 21.5 in mid November, but hey let's all freak out.

The projected only takes into account for 2 days of forecasted rainfall. The experimentals use 16 day forcasted rainfall, and both have the river at Vicksburg staying above 30’. I don’t think anybody is freaking out, but a river this high in October is unusual. And where I hunt a 30’ river flat out sucks this time of year because food plots, stand prep and everything else is fubar.

Those long term projections are not reliable. We have hunted on the river all my life and the past 10 years we have had 3 100 year floods. I can remember when the river stage in Vicksburg this time of year would be between six and 10 feet.

OMG!!! Open the flood gates!

I grew up hunting a place on the River that would start getting water at 28 and would be covered at 35. (Vicksburg). We went for years and years without even getting to 28 all the way through January.
Now, three out of the last five years they've had 28 or higher in October.
There is no question but the bottom of the river is higher than it used to be. That video done by the Chinese hydrologist at LSU is fascinating where he says the river is essentially 7 feet higher than it used to be above the ORCS. It's a very compelling argument.

Dredge it
Put the dredge material on a barge headed south
Take dredge from barge
Make land with dredge
????
Profit

I have heard the same thing. Dredge it!

The last time I checked it doesn't take 6 months for the water up north to exit the Mississippi River. Bullet avoided.

Looks like another decent rise coming
