We recently had a birthday party for my 4 year old at our house. There were 5 cars that parked in the street in front of my house for about 2 hours during the party. The other day I received an e-mail from the HOA with a photo of the cars parked in the road advising me that this was a violation of the HOA policy.

I'm not sure if this 'notice of violation' was a result of a neighbor's complaint, or simply the security man who rides around the neighborhood 24/7 looking for egregious violations of policy. EARRegardless, frick these assholes.

Anyone else have HOA stories?

Do you people not talk to the people on your boards? outside of the old fricking lady that complains, or the one dude that everyone hates, most people are just like you. Talk to them, tell them you had a party and they will say, "Ok we just had to send this to you because of that bitch old lady. Please have another party to annoy her."

I would go find a copy of the HOA rules and find exactly what it says about cars parked on the street. My HOA just says you can't leave cars parked on the street overnight or on a regular basis...and they don't act like communists over little shite like this. If your HOA's rule is similar, I'd take a pic/screenshot of it and send it back to the HOA to prove a point.

This is what happens when you pay someone else to tell you whats in their best interest.

Hopefully one day I too can afford such a luxury.

It sucks, but you knew there was an HOA when you bought the house.

Commit yourself to getting elected in the next few years then turn it into a dictatorship. An HOA president has more power than any governmental body.

The key is to get a seasoned realtor who knows the areas you're looking to buy and can speak on all of the different HOAs.

My realtor was very specific about each house we looked at, gave tons of examples of good/bad for every single HOA. So obviously we settled on a house in a neighborhood where his feedback was all positive about our HOA. 4 years later, not a peep from them.

Just had 30 people over for my daughter's birthday, no notice from our HOA. Get better neighbors.

In one of my son’s neighborhoods, there are access lanes behind each group of houses. This is used for service vehicles for utilities access, sanitation vehicles, etc. His lane or alley is up against a wooded area. He is the last house at the end of the service alley. He has his Legend bass boat parked back there. He received a letter from the HOA Gestapo that his boat cannot be visible from any of the neighborhood roads. It’s impossible to do so. He moved it about 8 feet and he received another letter indicating the same. His boat trailer is 2 feet longer than his garage so that’s not an option.

He moves it a couple of feet each time he gets a letter. The HOA merely writes letters and takes no other action. It also takes the HOA 6 months or more to approve simple things like a fence or addition of shrubbery, small trees, etc.

You didn’t read the covenants before you bought in the Subdivision?

They don’t suspend the rules* for a birthday party.

If you know you won’t have enough on-site parking for an event, get with your neighbors and see if some of your folks can park at the neighbors’ places.

Or have the folks park in a common area and shuttle them to your house.

Or move.

*You love the covenants when they keep a neighbor from having junk cars all over their yard. You have to give to get. I get it that you might consider it petty for a couple of hours but some people start abusing that way and work their way up to larger violations.
