I have never felt like the taxi times are that long at MSY.
probably among the shortest in the country for a "big" airport, which MSY really isn't

Scruffy, airports are pretty notorious for being clusterfricks all over the world. Louisiana does suck at things, but this really isn't that bad compared to what's out there.
Maybe when it is 4x the initial projected cost?
When it doesn’t open for 5 or 6 years?
When construction flaws result in more repairs?
Scruffy needs a timeline for when it is officially time to state that it is a clusterfrick and someone should be held accountable.
Thanks.

From announcement of the project everyone thought it would run over on time and money.

Ok you win your blue ribbon. You have pointed out the La sucks. Good job with they astute analysis

That doesn’t answer Scruffy’s question though.
Does that mean that everything from now until it is open is acceptable?
At what point do we drop the “it’s all fine, this was expected” mindset?

All we have ever done is repeat the same thing over and over again while proclaiming how great LA is.
It is very old at this point and Scruffy hasn’t even been alive for very long.

ain't defending anyone in this because I haven't studied up on it, but if delays are due to contractor, they're paying some hefty penalties, if delays are due to change orders/gross buffoonery by the locals, that's on them, and of course guess who gets to eat those costs?

Right, but in the context of time between when a plane lands to when the next one lands (or departs if the same runway), minutes are easier to visualize why it won't matter if a large jet needs the entire 10,000'
at MSY, landing and departing on 11 is much easier because of the high speed then landing and departing on 29.
Landing and departing 29 can easily result in go arounds if the preceding aircraft slows and misses Charlie or Bravo. Also makes it harder to get departures out as well. I foresee this happening at the new terminal when only using 11. Anything 5 miles or less will usually wind up being quite tight.

if they are in the middle of a complex they aren't using five mile spacing

Who proclaims that La is great?
This terminal build has been a mess no doubt about it. I will point out that one part of the delay and price increase was a change in plans to re-configure the gates to help with possible larger planes because they are thinking more long haul direct flights and/or international flights.
Scruffy, if you enjoy reading up on stupidity and waste, go look into the Jefferson Parish Performing Arts Center. That was one of the worst projects that I can ever re-call.

New airports are always a cluster frick. They'll get it figured out. Will just take some time. Anything's better than that mausoleum on Airline Hwy.
There is truth to this, the new Denver airport was a complete clusterf@@@ when it opened...
However, this does not excuse Mitch and company from not thinking this through...i.e. the trench for all the sewer lines and other utilities, the new access from I-10, and proper connections between the new terminal and the support services on the south side...

If everyone thought it would run long and over budget then I guess it is expected.
A blanket statement that everything is excusable or everything is a clusterfrick doesn't seem fitting.

In post Landrieu New Orleans, it is though the man wasn't Mayor for the prior two terms when discussing issues and infrastructure problems. If you criticize him or mention him negatively then it becomes about statue removal.
Mitch Landrieu was the lead voice in the push for the new airport, which he described as "the gateway of the South". He made sure he held a ceremony in the new terminal before he left office and his name will be on a plaque there. There are many people to blame for the project being poorly planned, over budget and delayed, but you have to start the conversation with Mitch.

If it gets to that level it is definitely a clustefrick

A lot of the cost mark up from original price was the addition of the A-Concourse, which wasn’t it the original plan, the airport and airlines agreed to add after construction started due to the increase in traffic out performed projections.

It's interesting you think NOLA travelers are the big defenders of the new airport. Most of the threads about the new airport have featured NOLA business travelers complaining because the old airport was so easy to get in and out of for the local business traveler. That, no doubt, will change. I suspect it will take me longer to get there, park and hop on my SWA flight. But I am willing to see if the overall improvements offset my slight inconvenience.

I just hope it doesn't get a bad rep from the first few months where the kinks are being worked out.

New MSY Terminal

Just took the stairs on/off 2 planes in CLT last week (E Terminal). And by the way...
1 - if you land on 18R/36L, you have to cross an active runway
2 - taxi times at peak from 18R/36L to E Terminal are pretty bad.
