Is there just simply too much to learn? Are they protected too much and simply careless? Is the variability in patients too broad to focus? Is there a corporate nature now that puts too much emphasis on the bottom line?

Just shitty luck I guess.

Not all doctors specialize in everything. They know only what they have experience in, like any other profession.

That said not all doctors are created equally.

Perhaps it was just that the patients were assholes?

They have different specialties because there is in fact too much to learn. A good doctor knows when it is beyond their scope.

As I've been told by many doctors I go to, across a wide variety of specialties, they said their job involves way more paperwork than it used to and due to the current model, more and more emphasis is placed on seeing as many patients as quickly as possible. I find it is worse in primary care where they want you in and out as quickly as possible. I find the specialists will usually spend more time with you.

It also helps if you are well learned in your conditions and can converse fluently with the doctors. I know the older people tend to have problems with this and it makes the appointments less effective.

I'm surprised you don't have an old guy that does house calls on a horse with the old school black dr bag.

Doctors are just over-educated spoiled children who only want to sell you pills and get some time alone with your wife. Take what they say with a grain of salt and do NOT leave them alone with your wife or daughter.

I think some docs are shitty and just stopped giving a damn.

I ended up in UAB hospital several months ago because of my BP. My then doctor took me off one of my BP meds and my BP went haywire. I was out of town for work and called my doc and begged them to prescribe me something else and they wouldn't.

I end up in the ER because my BP wouldn't get under 180/100. They admit me to the hospital and run all types of tests and finally the doctor comes in and tells me that he is changing my meds and to never go back to that doctor again because he is going to kill me. I shouldn't have been on the one med I was on and he shouldn't have taken me off the other med I was on.

I haven't had a single issue since I started using a UAB doctor as my primary care physician.

I think its the opposite. Theres so much regulation and risk over giving the wrong diagnosis that no one wants to put their name to anything unless they're 1000% sure

many internal medicine Docs are going the concierge route and not taking insurance.
Hard to make money having to hire staff to keep up with all the gov't paperwork.

My mom had a spot on her face, religiously saw the derm Dr. they lazer it off a bunch of times...it keeps growing. Finally they test it...full on cancer. Had to remove half her face, put her arm skin on her face, and leg skin on her arm..still having surgeries. Seems like a biopsy would be the first damn thing they should have done.

Dad had 2 total hips. Was scheduled for earlier, but then my mom had to go first. Dad rescheduled a few months later. Well he almost died on the operating table because of heart condition. The cardiologist goes back to read the ekg or whatever test they ran...says no way he would recommended surgery, BUT THE MACHINE THAT READ IT MISSED A KEY FEATURE...the fricking machine got it wrong was his answer. Said it was fine 3 months earlier, probably should have read it himself...ya think?

Son separated his shoulder playing football, no treatment, no sling, just tell the 13 yr old to not lift it above his shoulder. Yea, right. AC joint is sticking up, pops every time he moves it...

All anecdotal, but still.
