Ryan Clark Appreciation/Delpit Analysis

I don't usually listen to Moscona except for when RC is on there. Dude is easily one of the best athletes in the media. Huge advocate for LSU but also has expert insight and the best stories. The one about Wes Welker yesterday had me rolling.
He also has some good insight on Delpit's struggles so far this season.

Also said he doesn’t think we can beat Bama with this defense. Not enough pass rush even when our DL is healthy and inability to cover on the back end. He thinks we will score but not be able to keep up with Bama’s offense.

Yeah that part was tough. Even more so because he knows what he's talking about so I'm a little nervous. The downside of him being an expert is he tells us what we don't want to hear

When Aranda goes man and blitzes Bama, he can take credit.

RC always gives great analysis and perspective. Reps LSU without coming off as a delusional homer which is good.
His analysis on Delpit is spot on. Not too worried about it because I know he's working hard.

Maybe not but when you have an offense like this you have a better shot. The last few years we’ve gotten turnovers early in the game and couldn’t capitalize. If we get a couple this year, we should be able to put points on the board.

Moscona is the best

So why is LSU paying Aranda 2.5 million then? To prevent him from going to A&M only?

There's the rub. Last year's defense created turnovers. This year not so much.
We've had chances, don't get me wrong. Caused a fumble v. Texas where the ball literally bounced perfectly into the runner's one free hand. It was in their end of the field, too. Stingley by himself has dropped three INTs, and a couple of other defenders have had chances as well.
You are correct, though. Get a couple of turnovers and score, then we'll see how good Bama is playing from behind. Gotta win that turnover battle though.

Maybe I didn't decipher it right. But didn't he basically say that Delpit isn't the elite player we thought he was? 'tackling' is hard, being 7 is hard, expectations are too much? Not sure if that's the analysis he want's out during his money season.

How can anyone have an accurate analysis of this defense. Too many players have gotten injured. We are not the only team that has suffered a lot of injuries though. But we already have a tough road victory on our resume. I think that when you score a lot of points you tend to relax as a team. LSU will have to maintain discipline, and focus going forward. We are giving up more points, but I am content with the W.

So far Delpit is not the player he was just last year! I don't know what his problem is but our whole defense is not up to par!!!

We need to stop handing down #7. Puts too much pressure on players!

It’s mental as soon as he starts playing and says frick the draft he will be great again.

This statement, exactly, is what RC was talking about. Basically, he was saying that what Delpit did last season would be nearly impossible to recreate, let alone surpass, and not b/c Delpit isn't good enough. But he stated that sometimes you just might not have the opportunities to do it and that Delpit has put an insane amount of pressure on himself to go out and be a star every game, every play, which ends up creating more issues. This pressure comes from the unrealistic fan expectations of Delpit not only reproducing what he did last year, but producing even more.
In part, I agree. For example, take what Burrow is doing so far this year and say he continues to do it throughout the remainder of the season. Now pretend he still has another year of eligibility and comes back to LSU. This fanbase (like any fanbase) would have the expectation of Burrow being Tom Brady or Joe Montana (in their prime) simply because they would think, "another year - should do better than the last." While it is true that most players do, and should, progress in their development and production year over year, sometimes, a player does so great one year, that increased (and in some cases the same) production is just not possible.
But overall, RC believes that Delpit is playing well and still showing elite talent, but that he just needs to settle in more and make the plays he can and should make, and quit trying to make the plays that aren't even there.

Ryan Clark usually has very good insight. And I appreciate him being very honest in his assessment. He is spot on about Delpit. Plus I think he goes to a lot of practices so he gets to see things others dont. But I dont agree with his analysis on the defense. I think having the starters back will make a huge a difference. Also he is basing everything off the Texas game. Which really was the defense's first game of the year against a spread team. They will improve from that performance. This defense is really talented, they just need to start playing more together.

If Aranda cannot find a way to pressure Tua, it will be difficult for LSU to win. They will have to get a couple of turnovers.
