I have a 5 burner gas grill but it doesn't have a temp gauge. Also need a meat thermometer.

Can I get it a all in one set up or would they be separate. And do I go with the smart meters?

Learnt me something here

Smoke

I have this one and several other posters do. It’s a solid unit with a radio signal to a separate unit so you can see your temps when you aren’t near the pit. It will work inside of your house. It has 2 probes. One for meat and one that you clip to the grill. There is also an option to make it operational with an app as well.

I’ve had Mavericks and the units aren’t as sturdy as the Thermoworks brand. You can only order from them directly.

They also have other units that will do more than 2 probes.

I have a meater +. It works great. The setup was a little confusing but once it's setup, it works very well and you can check on the temps via an app, so you do not even need to be home to check progress on the meat or smoker temp.

If you get this one, make sure you clean it very well after each smoke. If it is not clean, it will not connect.

It's one device that reads the meat and air temp, no plugs/wires.

get a thermopop for a meat thermometer. LINK cheap for a 3 second temp. there Thermopen is great at less than a second but they are 100+

The Smoke is for smoking. being you have a gas grill you might want a stationary dial thermometer on your grill. get a decent one on amazon.

Thanks, I just put the Smoke set up on my wish list

ETA:

So maybe just get a basic dial for the grill and a Thermopop?

Seems like I can get this for about half the price of the smoke set up

If you aren't doing many long cooks, that's the way I would go. I have the thermapen and use it almost every time I cook, inside and outside. The thermopop would give you moore versatility than the smoke.

Thermopop is great.

Uh, no.

Probe is good to 572 degrees, cable good to 700 degrees.

Can absolutely use the Smoke on a gas grill. Would just be cautious of flare-ups.

If you keep an eye out the Thermopen will go on sale. I picked up the original for $60. It’s damn fast. You can read temps as you’re going from the outer edge to the interior.

Also... the Smoke comes with the high temp probes so it could be used and isn’t just for smoking. The dial thermometers are mostly crap and are always off on the temps at the grate. If you have a tenderloin or bigger piece of meat going you are definitely going to want a probe in the meat reading the temp at all times. Instead of picking up the lid and losing heat everytime you want to check it. Also, and most people don’t think about this... but, it also works great if you are doing something in the oven.

For steaks and chicken I use my thermapen.

OMG shut up. Yes the "Smoke" was made for smoking. can you use it for other things, sure. But thats not what is its specialty.

you are one of those they likes to nitpick every single detail, just because, arent you?

No, thats you. In fact, I think everyone on the Food and Drink board knows this about you. You take a dump on everyones idea if it didn't come from you. You regularly post comments that provide no substance to the topic. Like your multiple post in "Thinking about grilling some Wagyu Tomahawks this weekend" You just argue to argue and say wrong stuff regularly.

ETA: Surprised you haven't upvoted your above comment yet.

i openly retracted there. because the last time i had done the research it wasnt as prevalent. I was wrong and admited to it.

Anybody have any experience with the ThermoPro TP20? My nephew has one and recommends it.

I no longer trust my Maverick ET-733 because of some questionable readings lately (probably need new probes again), plus it is so counter intuitive and hard to set.

IGrill works pretty good.
I have the IGrill with the 4 probes. It does the job. Thermoworks just makes a much better and more accurate product.
More of a fan of the Thermoworks Smoke.

CarRamrod also big fan of the Smoke.

Ramrod, any input??
